I have bet on FC Basel, because they as good as Liverpool currently, and I wouldn't fancy their chances against Liverpool in a do or die game at Anfield.
Well done!
I should have also put the caveat to never bet or trade your own team. Emotions will overrule judgement for sure!
That's a subjct I found really interesting. I trade most of Benfica's games and lay them and back them without any problem, but from times to times I get a 'itchy belly' and I stop. I know some traders won't trade their own teams, but I believe they should as they would know their own team in greater depth then others?
United are falling behind not due to Ferguson's powers being on the wane but because they can't compete financially.
Please allow me to disagree, if you look to the group were Man Utd was drawn, I would bet their budget is much higher then the sum of the budgets of the rest of the teams...

I think this kind of adds to the point I and Enzabella were trying to make the other day, with both the manchurian teams out of the CL... And unlike City, Utd was in an easy group...

It's a fallacy that Ferguson isn't buying because he doesn't see value - he simply doesn't have the funds available.
If we could have financed 5 Sneijders on the interest payment from last year alone then I think that is a pretty dire financial situation.
United's net transfer spend under the Glazers has been minimal and none of the Ronaldo money has been re-invested.
The Glazers are bleeding the club dry and soon the chickens will come home to roost.

This spending table from the last 5 years makes pretty interesting reading

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/transfe ... -2011.html

I can't remember what year the Glazers took over utd but if you ignore the season that they sold Ronaldo they still spent on average 30 million more than they took in from transfers, with over 43 million spent this summer. It's fair to say that the Glazers are bleeding the club dry (or at least giving others a bit of a chance) but they can't plead poverty when they've paid out several times for 30 million pound players and pay some pretty collossal wages that the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool would struggle to pay half of.

Rumours were that they were close to getting Snieder but were put off by his demands for a private jet as apparantly he wanted to commute from his home near Milan as he didn't fancy living in Manchester (seriously!)

That could have created a dangerous precedent, if other players had started asking for a private helicopter to avoid rush hour traffic!

Net cash transfer spend since the Glazers took over is £21.8M per year.
Their financial model has cost the club £578M since they took over (interest payments, bond buybacks etc.)

A good blog for anyone who wants to try and understand "Glazernomics" http://andersred.blogspot.com/

French football is becoming rich, they claimed to win more points as possible for the UEFA coefficient rankings obviously at the expense of one of the top 4 Nations in Europe. The strange thing that they have won a myriad of doubtful points for the latest qualification. Lyon game was scandalous. Lyon could only access the next round if they score 7 goals. Mr. Platini is learning well from the master Blatter I guess. Many of you will think I'm crazy and they are just coincidences but since yesterday I am hearing rumors that Apoel was going to be draw against Lyon ....Is that also a coincidence? Maybe but I am so sure.

After yesterday's profitable Braga match, today I'm focusing on Benfica. I had a lay that I was a bit unconfortable about because Danny is injured, but now I successfully closed it. I'll be looking to assess the match as it progresses, but I wouldn't be confidently taking a position before the off. Benfica are really playing wonderful football, but it's a first leg match on a terrible ground with -15ºc. I fancy u2.5 but the price is way lower then what I'd regard as value.

Tomorrow we'll have a game that should be a CL match too, Porto Vs Man City. I think the important thing here might be precisely this. Will City have the required motivation to beat Porto playing a minor competition? As in the above match, the first minutes of the match will be crucial to assess what might happen. It will be also a great chance to see what Porto's starlet James Rodriguez is capable of against a strong squad. In this match I fancy the 02.5. Both teams know how to score, Porto will be really motivated and well, City can score simply by being in the field.

Happy trading!

Well, one writes a long post about the CL and gets no replies. A girl talks about going for a walk naked and look at what happened.

It does tells you a lot about a man's mind
