Who the fuxx is Lao Tzu - Tao Te Ching?

On a serious note I like a couple more quotes. It seems like some Buddhism kicking in. I've actually been thinking of converting to Buddhism if I can find time or at least try and practice some of their teachings.

"The truth is not always beautiful, nor beautiful words the truth."

"If you understand others you are smart.
If you understand yourself you are illuminated.
If you overcome others you are powerful.
If you overcome yourself you have strength.
If you know how to be satisfied you are rich.
If you can act with vigor, you have a will.
If you don't lose your objectives you can be long-lasting.
If you die without loss, you are eternal."

Can't believe Jeff missed this fella before he went into self exile.

"Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?"

Good one for the scalpers being raped!

"If you add in a propensity toward trying to be perfect, say, to please your parents, you can wind up retreating into endless math-turbation.

If your intention includes actual trading, you might consider committing to a pretty good system and getting on with it."

'The Reality: Building wealth and trading capital is a slow and gradual process over years. It requires hard work in study, a bit of luck, a fair amount of self-sacrifice, and a lot of patience.

The Fantasy: A sudden wind fall of profits will bring an instant life changing fortune, bypassing work, luck, self-sacrifice and time in one fantastic stroke.'

Thats a good one Jeff, most new traders start with the fantasy bit first, and that includes me!

Cheers Marko.

I think that the end result that many people aspire to is achievable. I know one trader who's made £400K over the years from his bots. However, I also know that he's worked bloody hard to achieve that, and that's the part that puts most people off IMHO.

To use an analogy, most men would like a six pack, but few of us are willing to put up with the self-denial and the boring, strenuous reps needed to get there.

'Don’t be guided by thoughts of how wonderful the rewards might be if you were spectacularly successful at any given next step. Instead — and there are distinct echoes, here, of the Stoic focus on the worst-case scenario — ask how big the loss would be if you failed. So long as it would be tolerable, that’s all you need to know. Take that next step, and see what happens.'

'Many enter trading with dreams of fancy sports cars, etc., but we are all just glorified actuarial accountants... only we get paid better.'

'If you don’t know the answer yourself don’t expect somebody else to tell you. If you don’t know the answer yourself and somebody else says they know the answer, don’t let that fact push you into coming to a conclusion about something that you don’t know enough to come to a conclusion on.'

Naffman -

Why focus on Mugs? I was recently accused of acting like an idiot for questioning the videos of another well-known trainer. :)

I think that people who question experts in most fields are met with scorn, both by the experts themselves and by the people who look up them. As Buffett points out in the article I've linked to, it's very difficult to be an independent thinker, rather than going with the tide of popular opinion. However, I would say that the reason that the human race isn't still living in caves is because people have dared to think 'What if?' and challenge orthodox thinking.
