Bloody plumbers doing electrics. I'm fitting a new smart thermostat and you'd assume the green/yellow on the old one was earth. But of course it isn't, its a switched live cos they couldn't be bothered to get the right coloured 4-core cable, or use brown sleeving, or even a choc block. Yeah just twist two fckrs together and scarper. Even the wires in connectors are only held in by willpower and they fall out when you touch them. And what labelling there was on the cables is wrong, some pass behind pipework and crossover and that obviously was a step too far for his brain cell.
I feel better for that.... Just confirms my attitude that you should do these things yourself, it's not rocket science. In fact being "untrained" just makes you even more diligent.

You need to be careful with Lillies and other poisonous plants. My neighbour's cat bit into a Lilly and had to be put down within 24 hours due to kidney failure!
I used to have the know-how to do those jobs but always struggled to get the wires in place. You need the fingers of a baby.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 3:23 pm

Fingers of a baby and the eyesight of a hawk. 3 pairs of glasses and none work at any useful distance

I'll mod things but admit I wouldn't know where to start with a blank page. But I'm not as confident as I was when necessity was the mother of invention, once you can afford to get people in it becomes the easy option and you get out of the swing of it.
Switched on and nothing happened, thank (insert chosen deity) I took photos before and found out the twisted pair started in a connector wired to a third. Gonna let the house warm up before trying again

Has anyone else installed a Google Nest Learning thermostat?
yeah I know Degs, put ‘em on a table high up & they still manage to reach ‘em, had to put ‘em in the kitchen now, don’t think I’ll have any more pets after these two, we’ve a Burmese that thinks it’s a 3 year old child & a BSH that was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a few years back, cost us over £2k for an injection to shrink the growth & ever since we’ve had to maintain a special diet for her, she’s the sweetest thing but if she eats the other cat food she chucks it up everywhere
nah, but I put in our Hive, can’t be that much differentShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:20 pmHas anyone else installed a Google Nest Learning thermostat?

Have you got a hot water tank? Ie does it have a diverter valve to direct the flow to the tank/rads/both? My existing system had a connection from DHW satisfied as well as DHW demand which I guess was for the diverter. Without a hot water 'off' the diverter valve was returning to mid position so still heated the tank as well when it was on CH only. Not a big deal but hooking up the DHW satisfied on the new one as per the old one did the job. Hadn't seen any instructionals where they had one, just a DHW demand and a CH demand.Korattt wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:29 pmnah, but I put in our Hive, can’t be that much differentShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:20 pmHas anyone else installed a Google Nest Learning thermostat?
nah, had to get a brand new boiler though after 16 years or so, Hive hub wired in directly to it, is there not anything on YooToob you can look at?
