That is a very astute comment. I am not accusing anyone specifically but many people only think about and view market moves as trading only. They forget that some players are just backing or laying with no thought of trading out.

I have seen people take a £140,000 loss because they opposed a particular horse. I have also seen people with a potential £400,000 loss where they have opposed a horse which did lose for them! I was sweating and it wasn't my money :o

Wow! :o

What percentage of their betting bank did that represent?

I cannot remember the exact amount TBH Jeff but both had 6 figure banks! You tend not to look too close because it becomes a bit obvious. The one guy didn't bat an eyelid but ironically he could have made ~80% of his original targeted profit had he traded it back in running!

The guy was very open about it and moved on. I have seen people in trading rooms dump £8K on the opening race, continue to lose on almost every subsequent race and then claim they have made a small profit at the end of the day. Totally delusional but they say it anyway with the greatest of conviction!

Would you say guys like that usually use their own form analysis or insider knowledge (or both)?

But this particular person is only getting 3-7k mathed
of his 100k when ive been watching, so i doubt very much he is a punter.

there is just no benifit that i can think of of him putting up 90k+ more than he wants matching unless
it's for the obvious reason.

Some people are massive gamblers, simple as that

I started my career as a Betting Shop Manager for Ladbrokes. In 1993 we had a customer walk into one of our local shops, wanting to place £50,000 cash on Stoke City to win League 1. He was happy with the price Ladbrokes offered him, and with that pulled out £50k in £20 notes.

I'm not sure this guy on BF has any particular gameplan

Both were from the UK and both were using their own form figures and analysis. Neither of them had "inside" information although one of them used to own a lot of horses.

I am not saying either of them are this 100K backer we are witnessing at the moment. I am just saying that some people are pure punters and they make a decent living at it too! I also don't believe you can have a very rich mug - that's a contradiction in terms!

Some might say that Wayne Rooney used to fell into that category back in his betting days!

But I take your point - idiots don't usually accumulate vast riches in racing (unless they're into Martingale, and haven't yet hit the bit where they lose all their money!).
