Betfair Down / Betfair site crash
Yeah
After losing one or two "paychecks" to outages I actually had to change my approaches for both preoff and inplay markets to take a potential outage into account as part of the strategy, to make my positions more or less immune to it. It wrecked my scaling plans for preoff (football) because it was only a matter of time before the unthinkable happened but helped my focus elsewhere.
Imho it's just another problem that traders need to solve for themselves, if needed, depending on the trading approach.
I have made similar changes. Moved from trading football , to trading greyhounds only. Using smaller position size on dogs but trying to creating a large turnover, volatility helps a lot.Kai wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 11:59 amYeah

Doing everything, to stay in the trading game, as long as possible.
This is really bad news for me just getting into trading the pre football markets and now I'm hearing that people are losing large amounts due to outages! Any advice much appreciatedKai wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 11:59 amYeah

You can close the trade on Betdaq on the rare occasion that Betfair isn't back up until the match kicks off. Can also use the Betfair Sportsbook if it's a back bet and if it's still online, the price difference isn't ideal but it's better than turning your trades into random bets.
A couple of blogs may helpandieb1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2019 12:00 amThis is really bad news for me just getting into trading the pre football markets and now I'm hearing that people are losing large amounts due to outages! Any advice much appreciatedKai wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 11:59 amYeah

Apart from some extra commission, the ups and downs net out over time. It's just part of the reality of trading that's not mentioned in the sales pitch. Outages have always happened and always will. Anyone starting out should have a contingency to cover anything genuinely unlucky early on, but once you've traded long enough and been through enough of them they stop seeming like such a big deal. Short term pain or pleasure just become ripples on your long term results.
This line is often typed but never with evidence. I can't wait for my big pay day that must be shortly around the corner, it is very much over due.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2019 5:49 pmApart from some extra commission, the ups and downs net out over time. I won't be holding my breath for it mind you and will probably not survive it when it comes as it will be such a shock to the system.
