I genuinely think the government changing its approach is down to them reassessing just how hysterical and anxious the public are rather than any medical reassessment, the people are crying out to be locked in their homes and they wont be satisfied until its at gunpoint.
With respect, that's just speculation on your part.

frank, thanks for digging that out, interesting from the perspective of the data and even more so on the loose language used so as to allow for changes in strategy by proxy!!

this made me lol a bit:

In the Philippines, housebound social-media users have been making light of President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to “take a vacation at home” as the country’s main island, Luzon, is placed under strict quarantine measures to slow the spread of Covid-19.

During an address to the nation last week President Duterte encouraged people to stay in their homes, adding: “Walk around your house. Maybe you haven’t visited some parts of it yet.”

Filipino netizens responded by posting pictures and videos of themselves backpacking around their apartments, or lying on top of wardrobes and sitting inside cupboards.

Been thinking this for a while now ... there is a chance more may die from the fallout of the effects of the 'big spend' than from the virus itself!
Something we agree on at last.

The £330bn will mainly be in loans, so a lot will return to the coffers at some point.
Perhaps I miss-heard but I thought the loans were going to be government backed, not from the government themselves.
Looked into this more and the Government are backing the loans, they are not making the loans. So if a company defaults on the loan the bank will be repaid by the Government but otherwise the lending is coming from highstreet banks such as Barclays. How Barclays are accessing the money is not as clear.

BTW, woke up this morning with a slight temperature.
I hope it was a very very slight temperature as just read on your Twitter account this morning that you went out to Tesco's this morning to get something for lunch and "I've [You] had to park and walk to my local Tesco's for the last few days. It's crazy. "

Is that really sensible actions to be taking, going out to a supermarket the last few days if you have potential symptoms?

Did you not have other stuff you could make for lunch or have delivered?

Also going out to a supermarket daily is madness imo even if you don't have symptoms but especially if you potentially are showing symptoms. Why not look at doing a big shop online or getting a friend to do it for you and leave the stuff outside your house etc.

Please Keep in mind we have been told by the Government that the whole household should go into self isolation for 14 days from the date of the last person to show any of the symptoms. To do otherwise is frankly irresponsible.

This video released yesterday by Mark Rober on his YouTube channel is very good:

How To See Germs Spread (Coronavirus):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5-dI74zxPg

If you don't know Mark and his channel this is from his Wikipedia page:
Mark Rober is an American YouTuber, engineer and inventor. He is known for his YouTube videos on popular science, do-it-yourself gadgets and creative ideas. Several of his videos have gone viral, including a digital Halloween costume, and a trap for package thieves that releases a fountain of ultra-fine glitter. Prior to YouTube, Rober was an engineer with NASA where he spent seven years working on the Curiosity rover at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He later worked for four years at Apple Inc. as a product designer in their Special Projects Group, where he authored patents involving virtual reality in self-driving cars. In October 2019, Rober was integral in launching the environmental fundraiser #teamtrees, alongside YouTuber MrBeast.

A side effect of restrictions on quantities, lack of availability and suspending on-line deliveries etc is that supermarket visit frequencies inevitably will go up.

I'm off for a round of golf today, possibly one of the most isolating pastimes - especially where I hit the ball :)

Avoid supermarkets, use small suppliers, and get it delivered.

I just received a delivery of 100% grass fed beef, lamb and lambs liver that will last a month.

Meat contains virtually everything we need to survive.

Don't believe all the anti-fat crap put out by the vegan lobby and processed food industry.

Enjoy. I'm hopefully playing tomorrow. I had an email from my course saying to leave the flags in at all times (no need to touch anything).

Yes I had the same thing - 3 of the holes closed due to the weather we've had but only £10 which is a bargain as it's a decent course

watched this last night -made in 2018, pretty insightful and a lot of the commentary sounds very familiar:

Contagion: The BBC Four Pandemic
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p ... r-pandemic

The government rates the global outbreak of a deadly flu virus as a major threat to the UK. It could happen at any time. To predict the impact of the next pandemic more accurately than ever before, new data is needed - and lots of it. Dr Hannah Fry is on the case.

She sets out to recruit the nation to download the BBC Pandemic app in a ground-breaking experiment to help plan for when the next deadly virus comes to the UK. How quickly will it spread? How many could it kill? What can we do about it? The BBC Four Pandemic experiment will find out.
