What's the flipping point of online newspapers? Trying to find a bit of news amongst the adverts is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Just popped into Burger King and took my place in the queue, for my pre-BC burger. As the good people at the front of the queue got served the intelligent people in the queue moved forward to fill the gap, but the flipping dickhead standing in front of me stood still, looking at his smartphone. And there's me, standing behind him, queuing, for apparently nothing, in the middle of nowhere. I felt like booting him up the arse!!

Does he expect the counter to move towards him??

Even with covid-19 I'm still getting frustrated by people standing 5 metres back in the queue, instead of 2. At least now you don't need to kick then up the bum. Just move closer and breathe down their neck. :D

 even at my local s'market they have marked the queue line every 2 metres but the other day I saw a woman purposely leaving a spare marker between her and the one in front. I was expecting her to accuse the guy who was only 2 metres behind of attempted murder! I wondered how she managed to stay 4 metres away from everyone when inside? Some people are going out of their way to display their stupidity.

Going through my banking app yesterday I came across a contactles payment for £29.07 payed to Buguettes & Pies, I've never been to or had anything from this place. The amount did ring a bell though & I'm certain i spent that much on that day at Bargain Booze, I remembered thinking back to the trip that the lady behind the till passed me the payment machine from behind the counter, instead of using the one that's fixed to the till... I never thought that was strange until now. I've googled the Buguettes & Pies and it's a company just down the road from the Bargain Booze I went to... I wonder what the hell is going on here.

Possibly a VAT scam. No VAT on pies etc unlike booze. They share directors.

Whatever it is that's going on, it's pretty silly to be dependant on the public not becoming suspicious about strange payments, sounds like a plan to fail. My issue is, what the hell do I do about it. I can't go accusing people of something I dont know for sure.

Same thing happened at my local Costa, their machine wasn't working so they borrowed one from a nearby shop.

Loads of people ended up ringing their banks to get refunds, doubt many paid them back when the reason was known.

My bank told me it's not unusual for companies to do this, if that's the attitude towards it then it plays right into the hands of those that are willing to attempt vat fraud. I dont know what they're up to and it could be innocent, I've decided to just forget about it, if they're up to no good then I'm sure they will get caught up with sooner or later.

I keep personal accounts to the same level of detail as my trading accounts, so it would irritate me with the time I waste figuring out the inconsistency.

Possibly a VAT scam.
If shops are trying to survive by swerving vat then they have my support.

Biggest vat scam at the moment is charging vat on the PPE care homes need to buy. That's on top of the scandalous prices manufacturers are charging for it compared to last year. .

The Costa near me only did it because their terminals weren't working and no one carries cash so they'd have had to shut otherwise. Costa probably avoid paying corporation taxes like every other bg buisness but don't think borrowing other firms card payers is one of their tactics. I'd guess the firm they borrowed it from would have audited it somehow into their accounts as they wouldn't want to pay taxes on Costa's earnings for that day. I'd guess it's entirely innocent.

Derek do you mind if I steal the ranting podium for a brief moment? :)

Just want to make a general observation, maybe a mini-rant if you want.

Has there been an increase in negativity and bickering overall here on Derek's forum? Is the current situation a good enough excuse for that or has this always been the case? There seem to be so many negative and snide comments with people seemingly going out of their way to be generally unpleasant that it's getting pretty difficult to read some of the stuff on here.

I ask because one of you guys (a Brit) PMed me recently to basically say that being cynical, miserable and mean spirited is a very British trait, and that because of it they can never match the Portuguese achievements. I'd love to pretend that I'm shocked to hear something like that but I've heard similar things many times, even in your own newspapers. Brexit maybe being the ultimate proof of this sort of mentality and mindset, especially in the older demographics.

I have a feeling that if everyone on here openly said what they honestly thought about each other, especially the oldschool guys about one another, that the place would be a warzone and would fall apart. I thought the point of the forum for many was to make some friends and not make enemies of everyone, but I am very easy to get along with so wtf do I know

Wasn't Peter also involved in some drama outside the forum with Mugs and The Nerd and a few others? Don't know why but can only assume it was business related, or some may see it as an ongoing feud between the real traders and the pretenders. If that's the case then credit must be given for fighting the good fight, for the general benefit of practically everyone. I hope it's not just about petty bickering.

What I find weird is that the oldschool guys seem to care about pride the most and are generally among the least transparent traders, don't really understand why some would feel almost embarrassed about their results just because they've been around for a decade or two. I get that with age feelings of regret and bitterness start creeping in, but feels like some people would prefer to live their life like a bunch of hermits and would rather die "poor" than swallow some of their pride and open up for more learning and potential collabs etc. Nobody really wants to open up because in their mind that would be just opening yourself up for criticism and mockery and a whole lot of pain, pretty ridiculous stuff.

You could argue that maybe they have the most to hide but it looks like it's all just about pride. The student can always become the master and is the more natural path, but for the master to become a student again is much more difficult to stomach. Sure, the Portuguese guys are all young and you can say that it's easy for them to be social, but to achieve such amazing results across the board at such an age they have to be doing something right, maybe it's all the collaboration and general camaraderie that is giving them the edge.

Anyway, didn't want to open a thread about it and contribute to more spreading of negativity but a big shout out to all the forumites spreading positivity and encouragement. Also big credit to Peter/Dallas for rising above all the forum bickering, they obviously have to stay impartial but I'm sure a lot of people would openly abuse some of their powers if given the same opportunity.

To end the note in a positive way, myself as a student have long identified the masters I wanted to learn from, here's a short list and the things I was interested in the most :

1. Peter Webb - for the general trading metaknowledge and psychology

2. Paulo Rebelo - football specialist for obvious reasons

3. Psychoff - football specialist same as above

4. Bickat - inplay racing specialist for maximizing my current skill set

5. Anton Kreil - for the self-employment life plan model

I ventured into the How do you invest your money thread the other day, I couldn't believe what it had turned into, i guess in general us Brits seem to have this burning desire to always be right, once proven wrong we will not under any circumstances change our opinion.... even when we know the other person is right we wont. I'm sure that is not just a British thing but we do seem to suffer the most, and before anyone gets defensive, i'm not pointing any fingers. I've noticed too that we can't have a discussion lately without someone having the odd dig or two, tbh it'll probably pass & for those that dont shake it off will probably end up moving on after being ignored by most other members.

On a positive note, i've become some what used to the likes of yourself & Derek, I know that there is usally constructive advice from yourself & others too, I also enjoy the odd bit of mickey taking too which usually is provided in some form of meme
