Found it tricky today too, was my poorest day of the week so far. In fact I had a cracking opening day, then instead of improving, have won progressively less each day since!

seen that a few times this week. looks like a huge order hit the market, drives price one way, then its gradually taken back to where it was.

Profit wise not been great for me but experience has been good

Some of these huge moves, were obviously driven by 'High-St' firms, hitting the mkt, at the same approx time, as they got bets on the racecrse (to trim Sp, thus Sp liabilities)

I know one firm, backed War envoy to win 60k .. and this after Kingfisher had been beaten.

The man trying to reduce the betfair price isnt very sophisticated. if the price is 8.0, and he wants it 5.0 or so, he just puts 70k in the mkt, at 6.6 or so, and moves it down.

Its a good contest, but unfortunately, the High st, now have a v small presence of pumping money back to the crse .. despite huge Sp over-round examples, in the big races.

Its all a bit odd. Ascot today, costs the average bookie, something like 1000 pound a day to bet. So, they need to take, 2500 a race, betting at 15% margin, to make it worthwhile - believe me, betting to the public at this meeting, is both hard work, and v little fun.

So, as the racecourse charges so much, they, are indirectly, influencing the SP - which is reasonable .. but, its a v good discussion, as to what a fair over-round is, for these meetings.

Hi Northern Hemisphere,

Have ties to a horse racing in the Diamond Jubilee from down here, named Brazen Beau.
Everything has gone perfectly preperation wise, but he really doesn't like a wet track!

I've been checking the forecasts feverishly, but if someone a little closer to the action, or with some local knowledge could give me any info, would be much appreciated!

I don't think he'll place even if its Good ground. He won the Newmarket because of Moreira's great ride and had 7lb off the oppo. (Lankan Rupee, Chautauqua). 4.5 is ridiculously short - especially if rain does arrive.

Oh no Naffers! You're not one of THEM are you?? He had that weight because he's a 3yo, and it's a little thing called WFA
Anyway... He's flying, just don't want rain 8-)

TBH I have no idea how the form stacks up, I will just be cheering him very loudly. Will get a lot of joy if he can stick his nose out :D

Hi Dogery,
Re Brazen Beau: Heavy showers due this afternoon..but don't know how it will effect the ground yet..it is pretty fast out there at the moment..depends on the amount of rain..can probably update you if 'big Aussie bucks' are going on. Good luck!

Curiously, the very last race at Ascot produced one of my best results of the week. Once it started moving it looked like it was never going to stop.
