Yeah, that's what worries me the most, you all remember how outspoken he was recently about playing far too many games, this could be the last drop.

The only silver lining is that Steven Gerrard is doing well as a manager, and has already previously commented that he'll be ready to take over Liverpool when needed : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT9KMNJW6XY&t=105s

Always one step ahead of you old man!!

Nothing really to say, that wouldn't just be echo chambering. I only wait for Klopp's reaction.

Personally I'm taking what managers/players and ex-players like Gary Neville/Rio Ferdinand say with a pinch of salt because as far as I am concerned, they are part of the f****** problem. I sat and listened to GN last night and I normally have a lot of time for him as he talks a lot of sense when he takes his OGS best mate sunglasses off. But he and many like him were happy enough to hold their hand out and accept stellar wages for years and pay agents stupendous sums of money which is lost to the football eco system forever. At the same time as pretending to be a "fan" just like any other but if you google the average net worth of a real fan it doesn't come up with a figure that struggles to fit on a f****** calculator.

They were every bit as much a part of the bandwagon that the top clubs are now ultimately paying the price for and have been for years. What sickens me about this is that it all passes down to the fans. Yes the big clubs are owned by foreign businessmen who only SEEM to look at balance sheets but I don't believe that's the case at all. These are shrewd people who know that continuing the traditions of football clubs is part of a sensible business model because this is what fans buy into. As far as I'm concerned, the big six have backed themselves into a financial corner that's become bigger than their ability to control it. But somewhere the buck has to stop. The fans have only got so much money and it isn't just football. I love my boxing but the PPV fees are stupid. I scrapped my BT and SKY subscriptions out of principle. Football clubs have been taking fans pants down for years but fans still turn up so what do you expect. When you step into a major football stadium now you aren't just stepping into history but the residence of cold number crunching businessmen who will rip your face off financially and anonymously while selling you a "product" that is overpriced.

Traders/bettors are supposed to be adept at spotting value and pride themselves in it but don't spot how bad value football is. I went to watch Man City vs Arsenal in 2019 at the Etihad after someone I know couldn't go. I paid £60 for an £85 ticket......£85!!!!!!!!!!! and these weren't even the best seats. Their food and drink were stupidly over priced but fans were indulging. The fans have got to stop this freight train by not going but if you want to talk about manipulation, well clubs have been manipulating loyal fans for years all because season ticket holders are scared to lose their place in the queue. I stopped going to watch Sheff Utd years ago because of their ticket pricing and that is supposed to be a club "for the fans"....bollox!!! The sport of football is dead in the water without fans because no businessman or sponsor would pump millions into a sport with no interest. The sport now is completely money corrupt and its no longer the sport I loved. Everything must evolve and change I accept that and nothing ever stands still but anyone could see where football was heading and how indirectly the clubs are exerting financial pressure on the very people who can least afford to withstand it and this isn't a new thing.

I remember MU changing their club strip mid season years ago.....mid season!!!!!!!!! No thought to the tens of thousands of parents who had paid good money for kits for their young sons just a few months previous that were now out of date. I was stunned when I found out how much Man City charge so that young mascots can walk out with the players, I always thought this was free if your name was on a waiting list.....oh sod it I give up

It's a far cry from what took me into footy when I was young.

It's a very American way of running a sport. You sort of feel that's where this idea has come from.

I always thought American sport was very socialistic

Salary Caps
Revenue Sharing

and while I am in the mood to put the ball on the penalty spot and take my Alan Shearer long run up :D

Football will/has gone the same way as TV, too many stations, poor programs and just diluted crap. The World Cup is now almost unwatchable for anyone from a major footballing nation until you get to the last 16 as qualifying is automatic. I fully get on board with the why and how it isn't all about the big teams but there should be qualifying to get to the group stages rather than taking the piss and dishing up England vs San Marino which is like pitching Tyson Fury against a 40 year old journeyman middleweight who no one has heard of. The WC finals had 16 countries in it until 1982 and the Euro's only 8 until Euro 96. CL now is almost a non-watch until the last 16 as you can almost predict the two qualifiers from 8/10 groups.

Thats before we even get onto just how many games the top players can perform in per season at a level that wouldn't mug the fans off but lets face it, if Liverpool vs Man City were producing sub-standard football then the average football fan wouldn't have a clue what they were watching anyway and Anfield would still have 54k in it. We are already at the tipping point of performance levels by top players and Opta stats show that so more games cannot mean the same quality and as for no relegation, well how can that work??? There has to be consequences for sub-standard performance or will other clubs jump onto the bandwagon by wanting to be in it further down the line. Some people have said this isn't too unlike when the PL was formed and I have to say I agree. Senior officials are resigning their posts at big clubs, so this is already happening whether we like it or not

Playing devils advocate for a minute this is actually a really interesting article on why a super league would be great for football

Some valid points, but not sure about some of those merits but a salary cap, would mean people do it for the sport rather than they money.

When I was on the terraces at the Dell when I was young I always dreamt of getting on that pitch. When I play a famous golf course and I'm lining up that putt, my mind is always has this 'And it's Peter with a five foot putt for the championship'

I think you need that in sport.

IMO, I just don't think they understand football at a granular level outside of the "soccer" they have in their own country Pete. Their models might work for Baseball/Boxing/US Football but will they really work in a sport with a 150 year tradition??? Just because something's been around a long time doesn't mean it needs to be radically changed. You would need to be very careful sticking a rollercoaster on the great pyramid at Giza

I'd imagine everybody will wait till the end of the season and then decide what they want to do, if this happens.

Shame there isn't a market for whether it will happen or not.

I'd still be laying it happening.

From BBC:

"Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said he will be talking to lawyers tomorrow to see if there is any potential for clubs being thrown out of European competition - five of them are due to play in Champions League or Europa League semi-finals next week - and players being barred from Euro 2020."
