Gordon Brown keeps trotting out this line about child poverty, but what the press isn't covering is that the measure he is using is relative poverty.

......

It's just another tax, under a different angle to try and make it easier to implement.
Agreed.

I find it all a bit cynical (the political reasoning).

For the sake of argument say there is genuine child poverty, why on earth then earmark £100m for horse racing, i.e. entertainment, over the issue its supposed to address, child poverty. Utter bonkers.
UK child poverty in 1900s - homeless orphans starving in the streets
UK child poverty in 1950s - poor nutrition and sanitation, no heating, overcrowding
UK child poverty in 2000s - forced to use last year's iPhone model

It's not a strike at all. The fixtures are merely arranged for other dates, which makes it merely a stunt to garner attention.

When bookies have been screwing people for years, it's hard sympathise about them paying more tax on their obscene profits. The BHA are only sucking up and 'supporting' them cos they're so dependent on their involvement, because they've never done anything to promote racing as a sport in its own right. I don't see tennis or football having a day of action because those are sports not just a subsidiary of the scumbag bookies.
