there's also a potential danger here in that one may wish to edit an old post due to a change of opinion in the intervening period. replying to it would of course allow for that, but the original post may be more colorful than one would have wished for

I may be wrong but I wonder if the trigger for can't edit is if another forumite has quoted from it. Never tested it but experience seems to point that way.
Doesn't look like it, there's probably a timeframe instead, within which you can edit your own posts.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 4:41 pmI may be wrong but I wonder if the trigger for can't edit is if another forumite has quoted from it. Judging by my posts in the jokes thread the mods may have that timeframe set at 24hrs, may be able to confirm that theory in 3 hrs or so
It was always the case that you can't edit a post when somebody's replied to it, and rightly so. But I think the timeframe for editing a post that's not replied to and longer the last of the thread, was seven days. I think that may have been adjusted now.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 4:41 pmI may be wrong but I wonder if the trigger for can't edit is if another forumite has quoted from it. I can edit ones that were replied to. See if you can edit yours now?Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 5:41 pmIt was always the case that you can't edit a post when somebody's replied to it, and rightly so. Btw, I've set a reminder at the 24 hour mark of one of yesterday's posts, and looks like I do lose the ability to edit soon as exactly 24 hours have passedKai wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 5:10 pmDoesn't look like it, there's probably a timeframe instead, within which you can edit your own posts.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 4:41 pmI may be wrong but I wonder if the trigger for can't edit is if another forumite has quoted from it. Stop talking about McDonalds.
I can't drive or walk to one. I've tried to replicate a Mac, but failed. It's a bit of magic, corporatised.
And french fries are a fire hazard for sure.
