My walk this morning was like drifting through the set of a dystopian movie.
Went for a short walk through my small home town.

Wetherspoons closed (despite the CEO's bluster)
Betting shop closed.
Barber closed.

So no real surprises....then...

Open...

Estate Agents
Costa Coffee
Some charity shops
Fudge/Ice Cream only shop
Fish & Chips
Clothing - Brands (Regatta)
Small pound shop items
Key grinder (although just for today)

Practised social distancing swerving through the slow movers, will check back this time next week....

It is grim when you use those figures to forecast - and grimmer if you also consider that these are the rates when a reasonable level of healthcare has been available to victims.

To put absolute numbers into context. 680,000 people die in this country every year from something or other. I'm not saying it's trivial but when we reach double the number of usual deaths then I'll start hoarding ammo.

I think the reason for the excessive measures being taken is the fact that death rate from flu is 0.1% but the death rate from covid-19 is 2.3% which is obviously 23 times higher.

This assumes China has been telling the truth but many believe they have keeping the actual figures low.

I guess time will tell. But what’s going on in Italy leads me to believe it’s going to get very bad here.

I was skeptical at the beginning of this but when you see the numbers adding up day on day its pretty scary.

Chances of any of us dying from it are slim but when you see the pictures from Italy of the military patrolling the streets and piles of coffins in churches waiting for cremation without family members getting the chance to say goodbye it brings it home.

Still stupid decisions being made even in Italy with Napoli announcing their returning to training next week on the same day Dybala has tested positive for the virus.

I 100% agree with the measures Archery in fact I think they should be much stricter with fines and jail sentances for the knobs emptying the shop shelves. The deep concern is that our high survival rate (98-99%) is with the benefit of ICUs. And when iro 10% of people with the virus need an ICU the death rate will escalate when they are in short supply. That's the Italy problem, many more would be surviving but for the lack of facilities.

Slight faith in human nature restored, went to Tesco for the third day running and again couldn't get what we needed. Asked the manager when the delivery was and he asked what we needed. We told him and he went away and came back with everything we wanted. He said they'd been keeping stuff back for people they know to be responsible and the ones identified as greedy and selfish would be sent away without. Guess that's the advantage of small town life where everyone gets to know everyone else.

Well, if my local supermarket is anything to go by I think allot of people will end up with liver failure. Beer and wine shelves empty with just 12 bottles of low or non alcohol bottles left. Did some shopping for elderly neighbours in my street but had to go to 4 different places to get what they wanted. I don’t mind obviously but do feel sorry for them. I think all they really needed was a long chat. They said there own children were all busy. Which I found rather upsetting and pathetic on the children’s part. They could very easily make a phone call and leave the shopping on the door steps for them. Guess some people just don’t care and living in their own bubble.

I've come across that often enough. When I was a young man I used to do gardening and odd jobs for elderly people. I was surprised how many of them had offspring that didn't visit or offer to help, and even more surprised by how accepting and uncomplaining most elderly people were.

One of our local Supermarkets has in the last few hours been smashed up, probably through frustration from people not getting what they wanted after waiting for hours in long lines. The logic behind smashing It up baffles me, I think there is a good saying "dont bite the hand that feeds you" but then again, I shouldn't be so baffled, I live in a city riddled with twats.

I may have been a little excessive & it may take me some time to reap my rewards but I just planted myself some potatoes, onions, radish etc & making a start on my tomatoes tomorrow, those supermarkets are breeding grounds & the least amount of time I have to spend in one of them the better.

Today's experience for me.
My usual 1.5hr walk was absolutely heaving. 3 full car parks I have never seen full. Social distancing with older folk is easy. With youngsters, well they just don't get it at all.
Seems to me the chart Dallas posted between Italy/UK tells everything. We are on the identical trajectory unless people follow advice.
Tommorow is Mothers Day. Expect a blip 5 days from then.
