If found the following sometime ago but never really looked into it. Someone might find it helpful.
Assumptions
- All dogs running in the race ran the same distance and grade last time out. If thats not the case then skip the race or adjust using other methods.
Values
- An output rating value of 50 points.
- Track records for a particular distance.
- Last race time.
- 1 length = 0.066 seconds.
- How many lengths the dog was beaten by last time out.
- A value of 1.5 ratings points is used for 1 length.
Formula
- 50 + [{Track record - Last race time) / 0.066} - Beaten lengths] * 1.5
This should give each dog an accurate rating for the upcoming race. Does that mean the dog with the highest rating is going to win, no, does it mean that the dog will shorten in price, no. Is it of any use in the real world, no idea.
