I'll have to think twice about posting to the forum while watching a tennis match.

All though it was no laughing matter I couldn't help chuckling at this request.

What's the difference between hosting the Commonwealth Games and the Women's World Cup?ShaunWhite wrote: โTue Jul 18, 2023 1:28 pmSense reigns in Australia. Aside from the craziness of spending billions for a few days of Commonwealth Games there's the environmental stupidity of flying thousands of people around the world to do it. And this isn't a country without a passion for sport.
It's 52degrees in parts of China today btw.
Well done Aus.![]()
+1 Greenmark. Why not ban all World Cups and 'Games' events? In fact any and all sporting events where competitors, spectators and the media covering the event have long distances to travel, including the senseless activity of flying a horse to the other side of the world so that it can have a 3 minute run around a park.greenmark wrote: โTue Jul 18, 2023 2:05 pmWhat's the difference between hosting the Commonwealth Games and the Women's World Cup?ShaunWhite wrote: โTue Jul 18, 2023 1:28 pmSense reigns in Australia. Plus why did they bid for it in the first place?
From what I've read it's a realisation that they won't get sufficient benefit to justify the cost. So someone has got their sums wrong.
Nowt to do with care for the planet.
But, fair enough. It's their choice.

They didn't cite an environmental case, that was just my comment aside from the quoted reason.firlandsfarm wrote: โTue Jul 18, 2023 2:19 pm+1 Greenmark. Why not ban all World Cups and 'Games' events? The very best of luck with that. Nobody in power has given a s**t for decades and it's not because the tech and knowdege isn't there. So fundamentally I agree that we've really squandered time. We're not so clever are we?ShaunWhite wrote: โTue Jul 18, 2023 3:30 pmThey didn't cite an environmental case, that was just my comment aside from the quoted reason.firlandsfarm wrote: โTue Jul 18, 2023 2:19 pm+1 Greenmark. But personally I would restrict that sort of frivolous activity until the more pressing issues have been addressed in a meaningful way.
Excellent point. I will keep looking for Happy Corner subjects. And refrain from responding negatively on this thread. And I do mean that. Perhaps a walk round the reservoirs and woods will offer up a moment of joy.
At the risk of starting a row. I would like Happy Corner to be a place of calm and joy. But, yes, if you want a row head to any other thread. Just don't start it here.
