The party who must feel cheated in the GE debate are the Greens. They have an agenda far more important than the EU, and actually have an MP ! It's a shame nobody cares about tomorrow or remembers about yesterday.ruthlessimon wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2017 6:48 pmTaking about fairness, Ukip wins 13% of the total votes & gets 0.2% of the seats - defo fair

Even too left for me sometimes LeTiss, but for balance, in a democracy, there should be an equal amount of horribly left wing and horribly right wing. 'The people' wanted something other than establishment gray, so let's credit them with the intellegence form rational opinions by allowing all sides to get their messages across without being shouted down.
Regardless of how I/we see the world, you have to admit it's strange that a largely anti old guard sentiment is going to result in a landslide victory by the daddy of all establishment parties, the tories. They're the same old Etonians everyone hated a few years ago but with a slick new advertising agency. As I've said before "power to the people"' used to be a left wing slogan. What the hell happened? Geez, half the tories were remainers, even Teressa May herself, now she's acting like Field Marshal Mongomery. She's a shifty character and I don't trust her to be honest about what's said in these brexit negotiations.
Big majorities either way, be they Labour ones or for the tories, show there's something very wrong with the system. An equilibrium should theoretically be the norm.
She might be worth laying (only from a trading perspective!!)
I notice the bookies are offering 1.11 on Lucas retaining her seat, but even though Brighton emphatically voted 'Remain', 46k people still voted leave there. In the 2015 GE, Lucas won her seat with 22k votes, so her victory in Brighton Pavilion is not guaranteed

Would be interesting to see some age stats on the turnout for the council elections. Wouldn't be surprised if its mainly the "older" (conservative, brexiters, unionists types) out in force which may sku results of council elections in favour of conservatives?

Thats'a chilling thought

I've layed a Con majority, just until the Labour manifeso is announced. Rumour is they plan to spend over £900 trillion on the NHS and an extra £13.50 on the police. All paid for by a bumper gooseberry harvest on Jermy's allotment.
I think there may be some value in opposing the Tories in some seats.
For example, I notice they are favourites to win Sedgefield, Tony Blair's old constituency. That would be utter humiliation for Labour, so even though the North East were heavy 'Leave' voters, I still think seats like that are poor value for a Tory win

It's going to get interesting once the manifestos are released.
Expect a small Labour bounce esp when the politicians start to hit the TV.
Tories lack depth of quality and TV friendly people, proven by May's uncontested leadership bid and their presidential/personality approach.
Labour have some very creditable (especially female) straight talking MPs (Flint, Nandy, Long-Bailey, Eagles, Thornberry, Kendall etc etc)
Corbyn's manifesto won't be the usual flannel, he's no normal politican, expect bombshells. It's going to have some very appealing stuff for the 90%.
May's only defence will be to ridicule the figures and Corbyn. The next 4 weeks will be catchphrase brainwashing vs popular policies. Will 'strong and stable' on it's own be enough ? Cons will obviously still win because most electors don't really follow politics and are soundbite/herd voters.

unfortunately labour also have some very nauseating people which in my opinion are massive vote winners for the tories such as corbyn, abbot, mcdonnell, rayner, vaz, rees, chakrabarti, thornberry to mention a few.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2017 3:07 am

more than enough for the herd to follow tory.
Emily Thornberry is a vote loser Shaun, as is Diane Abbott
Labour were always the party of the working class, but somewhere along the lines they have lost their way - Thornberry is a good example of that, as she is an absolute snob. This is a woman who on Twitter, ridiculed people in the Rochester by-election for having a St George flag hanging out of their window.
The likes of Tony Benn would have been turning in his grave to think of a senior Labour MP taking the piss out of working class families like that.

I suspect this is the only thing you know about her. Do you think the tories care more about the working classes then?LeTiss wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2017 7:40 amEmily Thornberry is a vote loser Shaun, as is Diane Abbott

No, but I think it's an indication of how Labour has lost touch with, or perhaps taken for granted, the people who have voted for them all their lives, and just arrogantly assumed they would never vote Tory
I think this is why UKIP made progress into those areas, as their politically incorrect & no nonsense attitude appealed to those people, who have now seen Labour apparantely care about immigrants more than they care about white working class people, as that's the politically correct course to take

You're dead right.... but they only like 'no nonsense' when they're hearing what they want to hear. Thornberry was 'no nonsense' in saying what she did, but people would rather be offended to the point where it clouds their judgement about the bigger picture.
I'll be voting based on 117 years of fundamental party principals, not what's written on tomorrows chip paper about some here-today-gone-tomorrow politician. This "he said, she said" playground politics is laughable.
Interesting to see the new tory posters, "May" in 72pt font, 'conservative' in 1pt font. Says it all. The Tory's are trying to pull the wool over working class people's eyes and that is what I find offensive.
