There's only a limited amount of tax I'm willing to pay and I'm at my limit now. The nbn should never have been commenced. I'll stop now or we can fully debate it out I a separate thread since it's off topic.

The nbn might prove a more productive investment than 12 submarines or 52 billion on joint strike fighters.

BTW - I should provide a full disclosure - I get it connected in about 5 weeks.
:)

Since the smart TVs arrived and streaming services commenced, guess what, our infrastructure (copper wire mostly) can't handle it. It's going to get worse exponentially and I foresee blackouts and curfews to free up space in the near future. Those of us that rely on the Internet to do punting business, again guess what....??? Check out the whirlpool forums, posters are all spewing about drop outs and slowness. It's a House of Cards alright?
I don't see this as being the issue, especially during the daylight hours. Nearly all of your congestion occurs in the evening.

I've run numerous ping tests during the week and they remain about average.

What kind of improvements are you expecting?

I know as far as raw speed you will be better off but as for latency I'm not so sure.

From what I understand you will see little difference between ADSL2+(interleaving off) and the NBN.

Yep, its really hit and miss in-play
I'm going to use my $30 from the BF survey, to buy them some new cans and a couple of reels of string for their network

Hi Blueport,

I will welcome any improvement in speed (current line speed about 2.5 mbs and download at about 300 kbs)but the real advantage for me will be stability. I am on very old copper wires and every time it rains the connection either slows down or drops out. That will be the bebefit for me. I don't play games or download movies but there are times when I have to stop trading as I am unsure whether I will be left with a liability I can't trade out of if the connection drops out.

cheers

Sorry that should have read "benefit" not "bebefit".

But that's when it keeps getting me of late, at night, basically once Netflix started and every one's watching House of Cards or whatever it's called?

My bot runs the UK & IRE races, even though they don't start till around 11:30pm AUS time, I load it and press the GO button at about 8:30pm. I'm getting up to a dropped out connection the next morning more and more.

Weren't the Coalition doing a cheaper version of the NBN, like optic to a certain point old infrastructure after that? Akin to the way they build roads: Dual lane freeway that always ends in a single lane roundabout....now that's cost saving for you and a bottleneck to boot LOL??

It's more akin to every vehicle on an 8 lane highway having to pass through a single lane tunnel.

Fibre to the node is what they call it. Backboning with fibre to the pits/exchanges, then letting it trickle through the old existing cabling into our homes.

It's an old fashioned solution, by an old fashioned government

Galilee66,

I'm lucky enough to already have a reasonably stable connection with decent speeds. Mind you I've changed ISPs several times to find what I needed.

If I was in your shoes I would be welcoming a change to the NBN.

rinconpaul,

I'm currently doing nothing in the evenings so I'm not seeing the issues.

Even just my general internet usage is very minimal.

Like The dog of ry said, we are stuck with fibre to the node. The original NBN plan was to run fibre to the home, until Abbott got in and decided he would cut costs.
