Anybody know why betfair was not available for betting on yesterday's Kentucky Derby.

Betfair haven't offered a market on the Kentucky Derby for quite a few years. Didn't wanted to jeopardise their chance at a US exchange.

Sea Horse - to answer your question - according to my database, blindly dob'ing all front runners at BSP results in ~43% success rate. Definition of front runner will vary, but mine is led in the prev 3 races.

There are profitable angles with the dob'ing, but context needs to be applied - the usual variables really - race type, other horses, draw, BSP, number of runners, distance, dslr, course etc. Simply dob'ing a horse because it has traded 50% or below say 70% historically over the years simply doesn't work long term, though you might of course have a few lucky wins initially.

Thanks for your advice. There is so much potential on dobbing. Not really into automation but I have done a lot of dobbing this year and I like the potential it has.

Im concentrating on the Kerber match at moment (looks like she's about to be beat) so only got half an eye on racing this afternoon
