Russian Defence Minister has been missing for 12 days.

Official report is that he is busy.

Unofficial report is:

1. Left Russia, whereabouts unknown.
2. Been put under house arrest due incompetence of the military.
3. Has a heart problem and in hospital.
4. Was demoted to tank commander, sent to Ukraine and he and the tank taken hostage by a local farmer.
Think I heard on Sky he's left Russia, unless I'm confusing him with another of Putin's scapegoats.

5. Maybe he’s with the other Russian lads in a Ukrainian town on a night out doing a Rooney and banging them grannies.

6. Who knows, who will ever know for sure.
Russian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov has also not been seen in public since 11th March.

I wonder if Putin has removed them all ?
Yeltsin once gave the order to clear out his drinks cabinet and his aide mistakenly executed the entire cabinet.

General Yakov Rezantsev, 48, has been killed

That's number 7. Only 13 left to go.
When Putin gives the order to fire nukes he won't have any generals left to chain the command!
+1 Derek.

Apparently, it was intentional. Soldiers angry about the number of casualties.

Yep. :)

Apparently in 4 weeks Russia has lost more soldiers fighting in Ukraine than they did in 2 Chechnya wars.

For years we been told Russia is the 2nd best military force in the world.

Well, the 2nd bit is correct, but not the world, it’s in Ukraine.

Putin, your day is coming, I hope it’s a public execution.

Russia now claiming they never intended to take the capital. It was just a sight-seeing tour, like Salisbury.

Still don't get this. So simple. Table, sit around it, thrash things out, compromise. Done.
But no, lets fipping blow each other up for a bit. Fuck me!!
Well, the whole thing is about the newly discovered natural resources, isn't it, something we didn't really know at the start of this invasion.

In 2012 they discovered massive reserves of natural gas in the Crimea area, and what happened next? Crimea annexed by Russia 2 years later. Huge shale gas deposits discovered in the Donbas region? Suddenly there are nazis there and this part of Ukraine has to be taken away from them, the British company Shell was going to help them commercially sell it from 2017 but the war in 2014 conveniently prevented this.

Basically Ukraine was on its way to become the next petrostate like Russia, but in Kremlin they weren't too fond of a future where we instead buy gas from a pro-western NATO member like Ukraine. I think John McCain said it best years ago : "Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country."

Overall very disappointing to see yet another brutal conflict over natural resources, we're basically like rats fighting over leftover scraps on a dying planet.

Indeed, all the reports from military experts that have since fought them in Ukraine point to the same thing, outdated military doctrine, massive corruption and ill-discipline in their military from top to bottom.

At this point you would doubt their nukes even work, they might just blow themselves up if they try to launch one.

That last sentence did make me laugh

This has completely damaged any credibility the Russian arm has as a fighting force

If we put nuclear and biological weapons to one side and think of only in terms of conventional warfare, without taking anything away from the remarkable achievement by Ukrainians and the Ukraine army this last month with a fraction of the soldiers and weapons Russia has lost all credibility as a military power

Should they ever try to invade or attack any major country they'd stand no chance, and going up against NATO with far superior firepower, technology, Intelligence etc they have more chance of hitting the moon with a BB gun than making any advance.

Even Xi Jinping must now be thinking there's no point in ever expecting any useful help from Russia militarily if they did consider asking for any assistance with a Taiwan invasion .

Our best hope is that sanctions and shortages leave them unable to service and maintain their nukes, as well as building any more.

Yep, without the nukes they'd be an absolute pushover. People even started calling them 'orcs' for this reason, because they aren't well organized, they fight amongst themselves, they're only brave in large groups, they're essentially an army of slaves whose only motivation is fear and the promise of plunder, like the race of orcs from a Tolkien book.

The latest freshly coined term I heard for their military doctrine is "Blyatskrieg".

It's really no wonder they shifted their strategy to bombarding civilians instead to try and force Zelensky to give up Crimea and Donbas. Think he said today or yesterday that he's not going to do that.

One reason so many high ranking Russian officers have been killed is because they using unsecured communications equipment. Most of it is analogue so anyone with a bit of knowledge and Russian language knows exactly what there upto and easy to work out where they are.

They basically sitting ducks.

Makes you wonder where all that $500 million per day from gas and oil has been going. Obviously it’s not been on military equipment.
