Still not really sure whether Martinez was defending there or running for his life

On a serious note. WTF happened there?
Tbh this is what everyone wanted to see last season when Liverpool were 5 goals up at Old Trafford after 50 minutes, but Klopp annoyingly put the brakes on etc, people might not see these results happen again in their lifetime so why not just go for it when the opportunity is there ffs.

Last night everything seemed to click and when it does it looks a bit scary, we've already had glimpses earlier this season in the 9-0 against Bournemouth or 7-1 away to Rangers of the new team that Klopp is trying to build. The midfield is not there yet but the forward line is very much in place. Can see how he's trying to turn Gakpo into the next Firmino there, while retaining the option of the more robust Darwin leading the line as a complete forward.

Would also like to see Trent shifted to the right side of midfield in the near future, get him on the ball all game long, his ability seems half wasted there defending wingers and if he gets skinned too many times by quicker players he won't be able to create as much with lower confidence. That potential midfield for the national team as well of Bellingham-Rice-Trent doesn't sound half bad at all.

Beginning to get paranoid about TAA. Is his awful defensvie work a ploy to get shifted into midfield. He clearly loves attacking and supplying great attacking passes and dead ball scenarios.
Obviously it was highly enjoyable to watch but part of me is still baffled how the newly created Ten Hag style just evapporated to be replaced by chaotic apathy.

Not buying into that crap that he's awful defensively, he's average at worst. Gets picked on because of his ability on the ball, teams focus his side because Robertson and Virgil are on the other side.

You're asking a player with average pace to bomb forward and to always be open for passing angles, but also to catch up to quicker players and to never get exposed or caught out of position whenever this washed midfield loses the ball in the "wrong moments".

No player can defend when they get drained of confidence for whatever reason. We can pretend all we want that he's a fully converted right back but he grew up playing midfield.

I've been paying a lot more attention to him of late and its clear that if he's getting advice on his defending from staff he isn't implementing it.
The midfield option looks more and more sensible. He can help shield the right back and if beaten its not necessarily the end of the world. And for sure being able to link with Salah and the attacking line more easily could prove productive.
All of which seems so obvious why hasn't Klopp done it and keeps referring mto TAA as one the right backs available? Odd, but what do I know. :D

What a crazy game, and a fantastic result!

I just hope Liverpool can build on this. Its a shame it has come possibly too late for the major competitions
At least there's something positive to remember the season by, even if it is just one result it couldn't happen against a better opponent :D

Chelsea match delayed by 10 minutes.

And to save me from switching to the rant thread, UEFA Champions League is now UEFA - Champions League. Check your filters!
