Can't say I have seen anything so far in the chat which makes me think they have done or plan to do anything to improve communications with their customers - they seem to think they have a tip top service already

They have been saying they will get better for as long as I can remember - can't see why it is so hard for the team monitoring the API to get something up immediately - we manage to on this thread and we don't have this '21st Century' stuff they have!
agree. i dont believe that is a priority for them. i think when in goes wrong, they probably inform each other, their managers etc. no one can decide what to do, until some senior duty manager orders people what to do. i dont think anyone is authorised or as the savy to make a instant decision.andyfuller wrote:They have been saying they will get better for as long as I can remember - can't see why it is so hard for the team monitoring the API to get something up immediately - we manage to on this thread and we don't have this '21st Century' stuff they have!
a slightly better explanation of the problems this time
On 31 January we moved to a new datacentre and used that opportunity to significantly upgrade our infrastructure. Saturday's outage was the result of a misconfiguration that became apparent during a period of high activity. We fixed that issue and validated the fix during today's tests. During our test today, we spotted another issue that we have also addressed. We plan to double check this fix with additional tests tomorrow.

A question for any IT experts that might be reading this.
Is there any valid reason for Betfair to be offline more than momentarily?
I'd have thought that, if you have reserve servers and all data is backed up constantly, there should be little or no interruption to the service.
Or is it a bit more complicated than that?

well that was a waste of time. would have been better off trading the sandbaggers at kempton.
with their "performance releases from around April " and their "relaunch is the sports home page" and their "new products" that are coming soon. i expect this spring and summer to be full api freeze's, and site site crashes especially on saturdays.
just like the good old days, nothing ever changes.

not really. the database can onlt be backed up at certain points. If it go;s down then you either have to roll back to the last backup which on a live site such as betfair is a no go or wait for it to come back up. IMHO there is no way you can just switch servers and carry on from where the previous server crashed.
