Next Tory Leader & May's Exit Date (2019)
I thought they helped legitimise him by having him present their show a few times ?
Not to mention the population of London who voted him in as Mayor...... twice.

He was simply playing up to his likeable buffoon image of the time.
What am I missing with Leadsom? She only has the declared support of 4 MPs according to the DT (Boris 54, Hunt 33, Gove 32) yet is 2nd or 3rd fav in the betting. Is she the backup plan if Boris blows up?

If, as Superfrank says, Hunt and Gove have 60+ MP's behind them and also, I'd imagine, that Gove pretty much hates Johnson is it not likely that they'll combine their votes to stop Johnson? It's going to be an interesting process.
But also, next election - Johnson or Corbyn, good grief!!

Support for Hunt as Gove implodes.
It's looking like Boris vs Hunt as the final 2 to be put to the members - Hunt has much more of a chance with the members than Gove ever would have.

Rudd and Morgan desperately wanted Gove to go to the membership as the Brexiteer - his drug admissions have thwarted that Remainer plot.

I think the fuss over this drugs thing is ridiculous … imagine if they said to the public you are not allowed to vote in elections if you have previously taken a recreational drug or committed any crime … there would be no electorate. (And running through a wheatfield is criminal damage!superfrank wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 9:41 amRudd and Morgan desperately wanted Gove to go to the membership as the Brexiteer - his drug admissions have thwarted that Remainer plot.

I think what did it for him was it was Gove himself who helped or brought in legislation that anyone who is convicted/taken class A cannot take up the position of a teacher.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 9:47 amI think the fuss over this drugs thing is ridiculous … imagine if they said to the public you are not allowed to vote in elections if you have previously taken a recreational drug or committed any crime … there would be no electorate. It would be hypocritical for him to be allowed to be PM under the same rules
PLUS - the USA have a pretty hard line on admission to the country if you are or were a class A drug user (you don't even have to have a conviction, only an admission or common knowledge - FFS, Nigella Lawson and Amy Winehouse even suffered a ban for the same reasonDallas wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 9:59 amI think what did it for him was it was Gove himself who helped or brought in legislation that anyone who is convicted/taken class A cannot take up the position of a teacher.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 9:47 amI think the fuss over this drugs thing is ridiculous … imagine if they said to the public you are not allowed to vote in elections if you have previously taken a recreational drug or committed any crime … there would be no electorate. don't think we should be keeping our fingers crossed every time Mr Gove has to do some urgent diplomatic business in the US!!
