Well, if Liz becomes PM and needs a hand……Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:08 pmThat's more or less the impression I had, but it was nothing more than a guess. You do a better job of explaining government policy than BJ.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 8:57 pmAt its simplest, levelling up is about tackling inequality between places, primarily by ‘creating new good jobs, boosting training and growing productivity in places that have seen economic decline.![]()

The Beeb has suggested it could be a high as 36. It's a bit like becomng an accountant. If there's a surge the year you attempt to qualify the governing body will simply raise the bar.
I've often wondered what stops a government from passing a law to increase the parliamentary term to 100 years. If Camaron could increase it from 4 to 5, why didn't he just go for 10 or 20?
As you said earlier - thats democracy. It was all he could get away with. Democracy is a bit like capitalism, un-regulated its a monster. Regulation (arguing, successive govts flipping laws to and fro) is our saviour. Annoying though it can be, it's the best we've got. Beats Soviet Socialism, One Party Communism (psuedo capitalism), dictatorship, religious fundamentalism, Oligarchy, kleptocracy. Anyhow you get my drift, noy perfect by any means but the alternatives are really a bit crap.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:42 pmI've often wondered what stops a government from passing a law to increase the parliamentary term to 100 years. I only seen one brief interview with him and within the first 30secs he remained us again how he was an 'Entrepreneur' at least 4 times - I thought he would have learnt how much that grates on people after the 2019 contest!
But suspect his price his down to being a remainer, its going to be extra hard for any of them to win MP's votes this contest (except maybe Truss)
The first Tory members poll through up a few surprises yesterday

)

Jeremy Hunt - 4%
Nadhim Zahawi - 3.8%
Sajid Javid - 3.1%

And nor should they. The leader of our nation should represent the majority of voters that he / she leads. We are still a democracy after all.
