At its simplest, levelling up is about tackling inequality between places, primarily by ‘creating new good jobs, boosting training and growing productivity in places that have seen economic decline.
That's more or less the impression I had, but it was nothing more than a guess. You do a better job of explaining government policy than BJ. :)
Well, if Liz becomes PM and needs a hand…… 🤠

Penny and Sunak now joint favs at about 3.5. Liz has drifted to 8. Don't know if the new rules have anything to do with it.

No way the Tory membership will go with Sunak.

Javid is getting some stick for abandoning his support for the disgraced and despicable PM so late, and quite rightly so. But didn't he resign at the same time as Sunak?

Open to correction (as I'm pissed) but I think the Tory leader election rules have been changed. You now need the support of 20 MPs instead of 8?
The Beeb has suggested it could be a high as 36. It's a bit like becomng an accountant. If there's a surge the year you attempt to qualify the governing body will simply raise the bar.

I've often wondered what stops a government from passing a law to increase the parliamentary term to 100 years. If Camaron could increase it from 4 to 5, why didn't he just go for 10 or 20?

As you said earlier - thats democracy. It was all he could get away with. Democracy is a bit like capitalism, un-regulated its a monster. Regulation (arguing, successive govts flipping laws to and fro) is our saviour. Annoying though it can be, it's the best we've got. Beats Soviet Socialism, One Party Communism (psuedo capitalism), dictatorship, religious fundamentalism, Oligarchy, kleptocracy. Anyhow you get my drift, noy perfect by any means but the alternatives are really a bit crap.

I suspect it will remove 5-6 of them in the first round

Whatever you think of Betfair, at least we can trust them not to change the rules to a market mid-race. Shame the Tories have no regard for rules. What a shambles!

Graham Brady looked uncomfortable explaining the rules to the press.

I dont know much about politics but how come Jeremy Hunt is so long? He was boris' top contender in the last leader elections and he appears serious about running this time as well

I only seen one brief interview with him and within the first 30secs he remained us again how he was an 'Entrepreneur' at least 4 times - I thought he would have learnt how much that grates on people after the 2019 contest!

But suspect his price his down to being a remainer, its going to be extra hard for any of them to win MP's votes this contest (except maybe Truss)

And nor should they. The leader of our nation should represent the majority of voters that he / she leads. We are still a democracy after all.
