What is FoXg ?
:) My own version of Xg based on In-Game statistics. (Called it FoXg for the craic)
If it's your own analysis you should post it before the match, instead of posting afterwards and saying the results are close to expected.

Surely a goal's a goal, whether it's headed or kicked?
It's work in progress.

I outlined it more in the last post in the Football Musings thread.

I'll answer it a little more on there as this is the world cup thread.

What's people's thoughts on todays game? Not much between the sides, low scoring cagey game, maybe a bit of South American indiscipline. France just to edge it for me

I'd like to see Messi win the World Cup.

From a trading perspective, there seems to be some question about sickness in the French camp and maybe the fitness of Mbappe (just my own observation). He'll probably run 20km+ and score a hat-trick...

It's a trappy heat. There are two massive negative indicators against Argentina. Obvs can't give those away. However sickness in the French camp could trump those indicators. Shame about the sickness as I was looking forward to a nice payout. Johnathan Wilson (journalist) thinks Argentina go narrow 4-4-2 so could be a war of attrition with a few bits of quality to light it up?

In World Cups gone by, Messi has been the only real player in the Argentina team. In this World Cup, there are more goal threats and better supply lines. Mind you, the French team. if fit, can produce something out of nothing and have WC final experience. Not surprising the odds were 50:50 at one stage.

France and the water carrier have a lot nous. (Disrupted preparation though) Copa America win gives Argentina belief and confidence. I was lucky enough to be at Wembley supporting Messi and co in 2011. It was a privilege to watch and one of my finest sporting memories. Hope his hamstring will hold up. Imagine if the water carrier had beaten the special one back in 2004? Parallel football universe I know!!!

Di Maria starts for Argentina.

Rabiot back for France, Upamecano starts ahead of Konate. Wonder if that is a forced change due to any illness issues, or tactical.

Have the French players affected by illness recovered - enough?

So many people buying into the Messi story I would go for France if I was having a bet.

France really need to show a bit more if they want to retain their title

My thoughts too. They look out of their depth at the moment.

Oh dear 2-0.
