Even I recognise the ref's hand singles. They're fairly obvious and they got the benefit of replays.

VAR was sold as "Operating under the philosophy of minimal interference, maximum benefit, the VAR system seeks to provide a way for clear and obvious errors and serious missed incidents to be corrected"greenmark wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 10:36 pmVAR was the "solution" to dodgy decisions. Now we have dodgy VAR decisions after several years of development of the tech and processes (and I'm not limiting that to the Diaz decision at all). It makes me me really wonder about the integrity of football..Michael5482 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 7:31 pmThe Diaz VAR controversy has completely overshadowed VAR's incompetence for two of the Aston Villa goals to make it 2-0 & 3-0 to them and effectively killing the game off.
One was a player clearly offside obstructing the keepers view and the other a clear foul in the build up to the goal. Brighton have as much right to be aggrieved as Liverpool.
If you take a job really seriously and put in a lot of work into getting it right, you'd be surprised how easy it is to disregard bias and look at the facts, in the same way that soldiers don't have time for fear in a battle. They're too highly trained and have too much to focus on.weemac wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 12:01 pmI have a decades-long 'dislike' of one particular PL team. If I was VAR, I'm totally sure my inbuilt bias would come into play, either consciously or subconsciously, and not in their favour!. The VAR people are just people like us with the same flaws and biases, so we need another VAR team to VAR the VAR team who VAR the referee. And so on ad infinitum.
Yep nothing professional about that at all, you can see why they get it wrong time after time. Not expecting military style comms but a bit of protocol and professionalism wouldn't go a miss. It's bad when an unqualified replay operator questioned the decision as well.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 7:24 pmThe dialogue on this is pretty staggering. These guys are on 80k. Not been in the services but have friends in catering (kitchens specifically) and the are modelled on the military. You have a process and protocol and you stick to it. It seems PGMOL and VAR don't have that. That transcript describes fluffy chaos in an environment that needs lightning, accurate decisions.Michael5482 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 7:34 pmYep nothing professional about that at all, you can see why they get it wrong time after time.
