The Economist | Buttonwood: Building a beta mousetrap http://www.economist.com/news/finance-a ... rsc=dg%7Cd

Was struck at how similar the beta approach is to my efforts to automate trading horse odds, particularly the lots of small wins then a big loss bit.

Currently trying a "value" approach, e.g. looking for significant changes in price just before off caused by "trader activities" rather than anything to do with the horse.....I.e. 'reversion to the mean"

Spooky!!!!

It seems that with almost generational frequency, the same old ideas get rediscovered, repackaged and resold by consultants. In almost every sphere of life you read about the latest new thing and think "haven't I heard all this somewhere before"'. At least they've waited until the weather warmed up to give these financial emporers their new season's clothes.
