I joined this magnificent establishment to add another string to my bow. I'm a layer at heart and, to a far lesser extent, a backer. I had hoped to become a trader but, after reading some of the comments on this forum, I have decided against it.

I had hoped that my laying and backing skills were going to be an advantage and that I could use them to fast-track to trading stardom. However, my fear is, they won't be. In fact, my backing and laying knowledge could be a big negative because, the sound trading action may be to L2B, whereas my backing and laying knowledge might cause me to B2L.

It's cost me years of my life to learn my trade as a layer.

I'm beginning to realise that it may take me just as long to become a good trader.

You know what? On balance, I'm probably going to be better off further developing my laying skills than attempting to become a trader.

You chasp and chaspesses have helped me make, what I feel to be, the best choice. My thanks for that.

I also hope, that in some small way, I have returned the compliment and helped some of the good people of this forum.

This is therefore my last post.

Sorry to see you go but if I were you I would look to specialise in one area rather than give up all together. Trading the markets consistantly is very difficult. People who have mastered it won't see it that way but to others it can be a nightmare. It takes an ENORMOUS amount of time and dedication. Its a full time job. You will smash up you banks, anybody who say they havnt is a liar, and if you are determind come back with another one. I've smashed up more banks than Bonnie & Clyde, now im reaping the benefits of my stupidity. Dont give up all together, look for another way. Join another Community. Take a new path but don't ever give up.

There's nothing wrong (or different) with just laying, or just backing. Your 'trade' just gets exited at 0% or 100%, it's the best stop loss there is. Provided you have risk reward on side (as with all trades) you'll do fine. In the last several years, my best strategy/trade has been one I run to expiry - ie. take the full loss or win. You're doing the same thing as trading, just longer time span (maybe) and with (hopefully) sensible staking.

Trading over shorter time spans isn't the holy grail, the holy G is trading with value on your side regardless of time frame. The shorter time frame stuff BA users tend to gravitate to, can work wonders in terms of churn rate, opportunity frequency and p/l volatility reduction.. but it has drawbacks, randomness and noise abounds, what looks like a pattern is very very often just a random occurrence, if you cannot execute well you will never get RR onside and that is hyper competitive and so on.

It's absolutely fair that people try to succeed and fail. It's actually refreshing to see that people that are finding it hard, are posting about that, there does need to be balance. Making money out of thin air is never going to be easy.

That made me laugh too, LeTiss!

I think we need a new forum section called 'Final Goodbyes'.

I like Nero Tulip's reply...talking of backing or laying being just a longer time-frame ..it's all trading..is basically correct..and it's thinking 'outside the box' which i like. I've been trading 'full time'..by that i mean trying to learn all day every day 6 days a week for 18 months now...and I'm still not there. Sometimes i feel I'm nearly there...other times I'm nearly giving up. I also think Anna has made the correct decision. He is presumably good at the laying that he does...better to stick with that than the turmoil of pre-race trading...stick with what u r good at i say!!
