When I watch YT videos on scalping, is there a reason why the majority all seem to lay first ?

I think simon on the forum would probably have a good list of criteria to indicate when best to back 1st and when best to lay 1st. I was always led to believe that this choice revolved around proximity to crossover points in the odds, but not being a pre-race person per-se, don't pay much heed to that.
