Does anyone know whether it is legal to trade in play on sports events (using Bet Angel)through Betfair in NZ?
The legislation in Australia prohibits internet live trading on sports events and I wondered what the situation is in Kiwi Land?
Also, what are the internet speeds like in NZ?
Thanks in anticipation.

Live (in play) trading on sports events in New Zealand
Hi,
I live in NZ and have been trying BetAngel for a couple of months. Betfair block access to any location where betting is illegal, betting In-Play in New Zealand is fine, there are no restrictions. In Australia you are in fact allowed in bet In-Play on horse racing, but not certain other sports like tennis. Internet speeds in NZ and Australia are fine.

Thanks for that Zenyatta - so I assume that you can trade in play on the cricket/tennis/soccer anywhere in the world that it is legal to do so?
Have you traded in play on any of those sports?
I live in Melbourne but might look at spending some time in NZ (say for the Wimbledon tennis) if I could trade live on that from NZ.
I only get about 2.3Mbps on ADSL 2+ here - are the speeds in NZ better than that?
cheers

It is the ping speed you need to worry about rather than the download speed. Try a site like speedtestGalilee66 wrote:I only get about 2.3Mbps on ADSL 2+ here - are the speeds in NZ better than that?
Yup. Pretty much anywhere except France (Betfair exchange is now blocked there) and the US (Internet betting illegal - access there also blocked). I've traded In-Play on the Australian tennis open at the start of this year. No problem in NZ, but when I was staying in Australia, access was blocked.Galilee66 wrote:Thanks for that Zenyatta - so I assume that you can trade in play on the cricket/tennis/soccer anywhere in the world that it is legal to do so?

I can get 10Mbps on mobile broadband but that's expensive. You could try the BetAngel VPS (Virtual Private Server) which I'm trying, it's quite a cool tool (BetAngel runs on a remote server so you don't have to pay for local data usage, and you get a super-fast connection to Betfair).Galilee66 wrote:I live in Melbourne but might look at spending some time in NZ (say for the Wimbledon tennis) if I could trade live on that from NZ.
