Betfair / LMAX
Thanks for that, not knowing too much about financial markets I had a look at the various links you put up and from what I can see this will be the first ever peer 2 peer finacial tgrading platform/exchange?
If I am wrong please tell me Peter, also it would be great if you could give us your thoughts on this and what potential there is for this kind of concept of trading CFD? whish I understand are company shares?

Well spotted!
I just searched and found this:-

Do I get charged commission for buys and sells?
Yes. We charge commission on a per contract, per-trade basis. The opening and closing trade is effectively two separate trades, and therefore you are charged commission for each trade.
I was hoping that LMAX would be a game changer but it appears that may not be the case. I guess we will know more when it is finally fully up and running.
In the early days of Betfair I kept pushing them to adopt financial markets as the biggest reason people lose short term trading, is because of transaction costs. I thought their sports model would wipe the floor if it was applied to financial markets. I guess Lmax shows that this isn't going to happen. There is a lot of competition in the marketplace so Betfair have their work cut out on this. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Yeah I set up an account last night. Now need to wait until later tonight til the markets open be interesting to see how much money is in some of them,
I noticed on there site they state they have firms providing liquidity and that it will work exactly the same as the exchange model really hope it takes off though as I have been looking to get into financial trading for ages and was.not keen on going through brokers due to all the pitfalls that come with it! It!

I can't say I know very much at all about this type of trading but it is something I am defo going to look at going forward.
I have had a quick look around the site and it seems to me that the main advantages of LMAX is that you can set your own prices and not have to take a brokers price and you get Level 2 market view so you can see the market depth. Is this correct? Am I missing other key benefits?
Is there anything else missing from what BF offer over a normal broker?
Also I think it would be good to get the financial section of the forum up and running.

TBH, as far as I can see at the moment the only thing they offer over a normal broker is direct market access to both sides of the book. But that's a decent reason to have a go anyhow.andyfuller wrote:Is there anything else missing from what BF offer over a normal broker?
The only thing I am cautious of is of institutions in the market. Back in Betfiar's early days I did well on the financials but then somebody came along, probably somebody like IG and they cancelled and replaced orders faster than I could and before I had even seen the market move on my normal feed. So I had to stop and I guess others did as liquidity dried up dramatically thereafter.
As long as LMAX delivers lower frictional costs, then that's a good enough reason for it being a likely success.

Bit of a simpleton question but LMAX is really just for short term day trading really isn't it? It wouldn't be suitable for long term share trading, or have I missed the point

Looks like I am customer number 91 according to my account number? Anyhow, just funded the account and have placed a few trades, all of them losers so far! Judging by the bid and offer volumes and depth, the market looks like it is being seeded. Nothing amazing or different at the moment but will continue to have a play.
