I'll have to be short on this one....up all night with Mike Tyson inside my head trying to get out

Anyway there is no rest in my house when the children get ready for their first day back at school so I grabbed a cuppa and my laptop.

The first thing I noticed was the price of Tyfos at around 3.55-3.60 which in my book is a crazy price  His penultimate win came in July 2009 at this course off a handicap mark of 73 and he was put up to 77 for the privilege!! He was then knocking on the door for 9 runs and in those races his handicap mark was always around 75-77. He ran to his mark most times and had lots of place finishes. Finally on 6th August 2010 he managed to get his head in front from a mark of 78! That suggests to me that he is a game horse and that the handicapper has him sussed. As mentioned before, there could be some inside info to explain why after 9 attempts he finally managed to get his head in front again off his highest winning mark but I am not privy to that info even if it does exist?

Important As before, I am NOT saying this horse cannot win, I am suggesting this price is too low and should be more like 4.50 in my book.

As a result of his latest win he was awarded a new mark of 84 and was subsequently finished 4th at Chester 21/08/10. He was far from disgraced in that race of a career high mark and led until 1f out only to be swallowed up close home. It could also be that Chester didn't suit him although he did lead so something must have gone right for him.

He is a front runner and for the in-running players he could well offer a chance to back him pre-race and lay him off in running. Warning..Will Robinson :P There are other horses who also like to contest the lead so this may not be as a straight forward. Billy Red is also a trailblazer.

Mick Channon has a good chance with Univeral Circus who loves to hear her hooves rattle. You can forgive her the last defeat at Leicester as it was soft ground; it will be ideal today! She ran a lot at 7f but they seemed to have unlocked her with a drop back to 6f seeming to suit her best.

The dark horse is The Strig and he may attract support later as this is only his 5th handicap. He is very headstrong but with the likely blazing early pace his jockey should hopefully get him to settle close behind to allow him to come with a late run.

It's a tight race so 3.50 about Tyfos when he is on a lifetime high and struggled to win from 75-77 for 9 races is no value at all. I hope the rest of the gambling public agree and we see this drift out to a more sensible mark between 4.30-4.50.

My reverse forecast would be Universal Circus and The Strig....let's hope we get the drift on Tyfos 8-)

EDIT at 09:55 - Tried to catch up on sleep but didn't manage it so I looked at the race a bit more. Falasteen has tumbled down the handicap and he will think he's been let loose today! Richard Fahey is a shrewd trainer and I am sure he's not sending him all the way to Epsom for a day out. This horse could sit behind the trailblazers and let them set up the race for him. Just a bit more info that shows how competitive this race is and just how crazy the price of 3.50 for Tyfos really is

We're not really getting any pressure from the other runners and the price of Tyfos has simply settled at around 3.40

I still think 3.40 is a crazy price for a horse that seems to be well assessed by the handicapper and whilst I wouldn't simply lay it at 3.40 I also wouldn't back it.

There just needs to be some support for Billy Red or The Strig and we can get this back out to 3.75 :D Always thinking positive :D

Well we didn't get the drift in the end so it was a case of rubbing my eyes as the lemmings followed this one over the cliff!! It never ceases to amaze me how punters will see a shortening price and simply follow the money. I know that as traders we will do the same thing but that was punters money driving the price in :? :?

If you listen to the TV people they simply reinforce the view that "they" must know something. I was just amazed that this was forced down to around 2.50 and thought maybe my ongoing illness had meant my research was actually a dream

I added the comment about Falasteen and he duly obliged by coming late as suggested. I am not quite sure how he was returned 5/1 by the bookies...he was backed as high as 40 on Betfair and for money in the 20s too! I just wish I had parted with some of my money!!

It's strange that yesterday Phluke drifted badly and won and today Tyfos steamed in and never made the places!!! No matter what you say though, punters will always panic if their horse drifts and celebrate if it steams in which is always beyond me!!

I got some mileage out of it pre-race. Cheers again for the analysis.
