I joined VirginBet last week for Cheltenham. Account stands down just £300 and I've had two phone calls so far this week. First from their 'social responsibility' team asking me questions about affordability and then another call next day from their 'compliance' team asking me the exact same questions. I took them through all the usual; (financially independent, significant self employed income, significant savings, home owner, no mortgage etc etc) and my account is now blocked until I send them in supporting documents. It's £300! Ridiculous...
I think I'm giving up with sportsbooks now. Gubbed from most of them and nonsense restrictions and red tape from the rest. It's no longer worth the effort involved to keep an account open just for an occasional bit of better value.
Virgin bet nonsense

Dunno why you’d even bother with them tbh, don’t think there is a bookmaker with a worst reputation.

Compared to the hoops guys have to jump through who live in restricted countries this must seem like a bit of a first world problem.
I imagine the typical bookie/casino/bingo website customer as the poorest people financially but I bet they are left to lose thousands lifetime with no issues whilst those that know what they are doing and can manage their finances properly run into problems.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 6:12 pmfinancially independent, significant self employed income, significant savings, home owner, no mortgage etc etc
Things are definitely getting intrusive with banks and bookies, my deposit was declined when I tried to sign up to a bookie last week for a Cheltenham offer so I just gave up. I'd happily tell them I can't be be bothered jumping through the hoops than try to fight over multiple phonecalls for the £10 or £20 I could make from the signup offer.
I just hope BF doesn't do it any time soon. Even though my losses are nowhere near putting my total capital or finances at risk, I could be screwed in an affordability check because I keep little cash in my bank and can't easily prove that most of my assets exist
From what I recall reading (not sure where, probably something on here), the smaller bookies make almost all their money from just a few high rollers, while the larger ones it is mainly from their casino.alexmr2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:26 amI imagine the typical bookie/casino/bingo website customer as the poorest people financially but I bet they are left to lose thousands lifetime with no issues whilst those that know what they are doing and can manage their finances properly run into problems.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 6:12 pmfinancially independent, significant self employed income, significant savings, home owner, no mortgage etc etc

Well OTT in my view.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 6:12 pmI joined VirginBet last week for Cheltenham. Account stands down just £300 and I've had two phone calls so far this week. I would certainly refuse to jump through all those hoops, If betfair decided one day to tell all their customers to do the same, I'd cash out and leave the space until "common sense" prevailed.
Cheltenhams' turnover was down 25%+ on Betfair, so maybe others have done the same.
(Could also be the russian sanctions kicking in as the oligarchs can't fund their Betfair accounts anymore)
