I'm curious, how do people like using free bets in general?

Just throw it away on a fun random punt or to try and maximize the profit somehow etc?

Does anyone just cash them out instantly after placing them? If that's allowed?

For the bigger free bets for example

Never messed around with it much

I'm not sure you can cash out free bets and they may have rules regarding trading them.

Haven't had one for a while but I never place one on the market I'm trading. Because it's a free bet it registers on the Betfair website but not with BA.

Hence my question, because I'm pretty sure I could have cashed it out yesterday?

On the City match I placed like a 100 on the overs in the 2nd half and cashout feature was always available, but it felt exploitable

Funny enough when they scored it would have made a decent return if it were a trade, but didn't want to cash out so the free bet lost in the end

I always ignored these freebies partly because "Betfair reserves the right to disqualify you from the promotion and/or close your Betfair account if it considers there is sufficient evidence of abuse..."

I just use mine as leisure bets on the horses, haven't had one for while mind. I suppose if you were concerned about abusing them and falling foul of T&C's but wanted to trade with them you could hedge over on Betdaq.

Whenever I got a free bet it was usually £5 or £10 so I never worried about getting a guaranteed £2 out of it. I just remembered a clause in the rules regarding cashout.

You can hedge them, if you're doing 100s of bets on an event then who's to say what's what. If you had one bet a week and hedged it it might be a different story. Tenners? Are they the ones you light your cigar with? ;)

My logic is if they are Exchange free bets then you should be able to use Exchange features.

But then again this goes against the concept of a "free bet", since they're not calling it a "free trade" which is how this mechanic looks to me.

So never really know what to do with those, if anything, I think it's a valid question.

Meanwhile those Sportsbook Oddsboost tokens are pretty self-explanatory.

I'm tending to use them to unleash the wild punter inside of me and I'm putting them on wild outside chances. I just think it would be funny to win a huge amount on a free bet.

Couldn't you trade it out via the CS and O/U 0.5.? Or some other clever slieght of hand you football guys do?

I've never had an issue 'trading' them. I have my 'free bet' then later on decide to have another bet I pay for. The 'trade' element is only because you have decided to mentally pair them and I don't think they can stop you changing your mind or wanting a 2nd bet surely? The Betfair site doesn't even have a way to enter a 'trade' or auto sp hedge .....just ways to place individual bets.

..... Has anyone actually had any lately? I haven't for ages.

Well I bet you could do some fun mechanics with it, sort of why I wondered what others do with them.

It would be quite funny to win a large amount from a free bet, but I also like the idea of saving them for those matches when your team has a very comfortable lead, to act as free insurance when you have a sizeable emotional position open :D

Bookies have a clause saying if you use your free bet to guarantee a profit (which would include cross-markets) they can void bet/withdraw further free bets/close your account, I can't remember which one, which would mean you have to split them across bookies.

For £5 it's not worth the bother, just put it on a horse. :)
