Stand by the fence and lay the faller?

The sport of kings.

Just a thought, obviously not the first to have it.

What's stopping someone standing by one of the fences at a smaller course, with some sort of clicker like in tennis, and instant lay a faller?

I imagine the main issue, is the infrequency compared to volume available Along with internet signal and liquidity? Or would Betfair just ban you after a while being constantly faster than the market

I know at Whetherby there are fences you can stand next to and not look suspiciously out of place

People possibly do Wetherby is a wide open course you can see it from the A1M and adjacent roads, you can watch from the corner of the one of the bends at Sedgefield seen one or two there when I've been sat with gear., Redcar you can watch from the houses opposite from upstairs windows and see the full course if you own one of course (flat course though). I suspect most courses can be seen without entry at the far ends away from the main stands.

In relation to fallers they are on the decrease especially in hurdling where they have changed to padded hurdles on most courses now and what courses haven't will be switching. It's led to around a 10% reduction in fallers over hurdlers, as for fences they are constantly lowering them, moving them etc I read some guff from the Jockey Club end of last season. I suppose with TPD why anyone would go to a course when you could possibly automate a faller from your computer instead of sat like a lemon in the middle of winter waiting for something to happen or not.

This is what I also wondered.

If TPD is quick enough or if someone is stood at the race course doing exactly this

But yeah, can't remember the last time I was at whetherby and something fell at the fence im thinking of

You're not the first, drones were all the rage a few years ago. Betfair don't ban winners because they aren't the ones losing. I just don't think you'll make anything, travel, entry fee, most meetings nothing happens. It's a lot of effort for very little.

You're not going to match much with a 1s delay to place a bet and a 0s delay for people to cancel their offers. It's one reason the inplay delay exists, it protects regular users from sharp practices.

Ah, hadn't actually realised in all this time that the cancel option wasn't subject to a 1 second delay (never traded in this kind of way so didn't matter)

But yeah, kind of the answer I expected really a lot of effort... The whole point of trading is to not have to do miserable work

Final one on home straight. Plenty of people stood around that area and right up close to the fence.

Issue then is I expect liquidity would be shocking on anything but the leading 2 horses.

Be better off at a fence half way around the course where you can get good liquidity on a lot more of the horses

I've typically found that trading is a game of anticipation. So you may be better looking at who looks like they may jump badly.

Used to ride a lot myself (non racing) so might have half a chance of managing this!
