Due to the Danish Company Danske Spil/Danish games, monopoly on all kind of sports in Denmark, it have come to my attention that betfair will Close for all Danish Traders/Gamblers on the Horse racing and the Greyhound markets from january 2012, because the Danish court have decided that Danske Spil is the only company in Denmark That are allowed to offer odds on these markets.

This is very sad news to me an many other Danish traders, so if there where anybody out there who knew a way around this problem i would be very greatfull.

Best Regards

You have my utmost sympathy. I can never understand how these kinds of restrictions are legal under EU Single Market laws. I'm sure there must be ways around this - and failing all else you'd be more than welcome to join us in the good old UK :)

As there is freedom of movement in the EU I suggest you nip across the border to set up in the nearest town where online exchange betting is allowed.

Please keep us up with any news from your part of world. Hopefully we can get you in contact with some other Danish customers.

Do Danske Spil/Danish pay any commission to UK horse racing for using their events for betting? If they do I could understand the judge. If they not that's unfair for people living in Denmark. At least Betfair is handing some millions to the racing industry as a voluntary contribution.

Wouldn't a UK/EIRE based VPS be the best and simplest option??

As discussed in another thread, usually the api still can accessed and used in countries where it should not be possible to use betfair.

I've just heard that Spain may also be considering doing similar.

is this an example of a single market through a standardised system of laws which apply in all member states?

We posted on the Spanish thread Betfair's response, which was a bit mixed on the whole issue.
