Why is there always a cunk of money sat at 1.44?

I've always assumed it was fishing for fat fingers. Which sounds like a Morrissey single

If pre-off, could be someone placing an in-play order at 1.50 (or something nearby), using automation, knowing their 1.44 is first in the queue for a fill, then, with momentum, it greens up at 1.44.

If they had put the 1.50 back in first, the software would match at the highest odds available at the time. That would defeat the point as the market momentum hasn't begun yet.

If the back order never gets matched at 1.50. then the Lay 1.44 just cancels automatically for a no trade, then on with next race.

Just guessing by the way..
