How reliable is in-play data?

Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

Watching L'pool v Dortmund, I was shocked to see how different 2 sources were regarding shots on/off target etc. And watching a match recently, I was equally shocked to see a forward cut back a ball from almost the bye-line, the keeper went down to smother it, and the data showed 'Shot on Target'. It was neither a shot, nor was it on target.

So how many sources gather this data, and what standards do they use to measure what's happening? Anyone know?

So the answer is "Totally unreliable.", and here's the proof.

I'm right now looking now at betfair's feed for Rangers v Celtic, just after full time (1-1). Every statement it makes is wrong.

'Rangers win'...WRONG, 'draw second half'.......WRONG, 'Rangers scored last'.......WRONG, 'under 0.5 goals 2nd half'....WRONG.

Impossible to use these so-called stats if they're so wildly inaccurate.

Half time Stoke v Spurs - the score's 0-1.

"Match goals - over 1.5" it says.

I hope no-one's betting on the basis of these supplied stats, because they're complete nonsense.

The betfair live feed for matches in Euro 2016 is reaching absurd new heights of inaccuracy. It's now a complete joke. They've just awarded 2 'goals' in Germany v Ukraine, followed by 'Goal cancelled'. In neither case was a goal awarded; the match observer wrongly awarded the goals and then had to change his mind.

Earlier today in the Poland v N. Ireland match, possession changed multiple times, attacking/defending momentum changed, and chances were created, before a throw-in was awarded. The feed simply stated 'Throw in'.

I'll rest my case now, but whatever you do, do NOT rely on the in-play data. It's total garbage.

You have many sources to monitoring the matches like bet365 match map monitor, it's quite accuracy. If you don't trust in betfair data, you can choose the different sportbook. But, in my opinion, betfair is the best.

The issue with that is they all more or less use the same company. So all the bookies share the same feed. I can't confirm if that's the case here, but I'd imagine it probably is.
