Another question regarding prices and the current action showing in the ladder.
The screenshot is from the Wales Portugal game after Portugal went 2-0 ahead.
Here I'm playing around in real mode for pennies and had managed to get a back bet in at 1.10, and placed my 6.82 lay bet at 1.04 and it's waiting to be matched.
There is 286,067 in the blue back column at 1.04. Just so I'm not missing anything, this is 286 thousand that has been placed on Portugal to win at 1.04, and is waiting to be matched, yes ?
But as there is 46,715 in the pink lay column at 1.07, does this mean that the 286,067 is actually getting matched at 1.07 rather than 1.04, and I have to wait until all the money has been taken at 1.07, 1.06, and 1.05 before mine gets taken at 1.04 ?
Sorry, but another basic Ladder odds question

What it means is this:
A total of £286,067 is available from layers for anyone who wants to back at 1.04. Your £6.82 is part of that money.
Anyone who comes to the market and asks to back at 1.04 or less will get matched out of the £286,067 pot. Whether they get matched with you or with someone else depends on your place in the queue of people laying at 1.04.
Anyone who comes to the market and asks to back at 1.05 or higher won't get matched but will get their order added to the pink money you see (£85,582 etc.).
I've been using BA for two months now and the ladder is still the bit that I really have to think about. One day I'll have to get my head round what the Reverse display means. One step at a time...

Thanks for taking the time to respond Shaky.
I need a cup of coffee and will sit and go back through this because it's obvious It's just not sinking in with me at the moment. I'm just hoping there will be a d'oh moment and it'll drop into place.
And, yes as for the Reverse Ladder, I just don't get that at all, but as you say, 1 step at a time.

You're welcome. If it helps then try to think of the difference between your view of things and the rest of the world's view. When you placed your £6.82 bet at 1.04 you were placing a LAY bet, which is why you clicked on the pink side of the ladder. But as far as the rest of the world is concerned, what happened was that £6.82 became available to BACK at 1.04, which is why your money got added to the blue total at 1.04.
The Reverse display swaps the blue and pink colours so that if you want to place a lay bet you still click on the pink bit but it's now on the left side of the ladder (i.e. where the money available for backers is).
Actually I think I just understood the Reverse display.
So thanks to you too.
The Reverse display swaps the blue and pink colours so that if you want to place a lay bet you still click on the pink bit but it's now on the left side of the ladder (i.e. where the money available for backers is).
Actually I think I just understood the Reverse display.

There are three main aspects to the ladder
1: The odds sitting in the middle
2: The two queues of money - one on the right and one on the left
3: The colour of the columns - this is the only aspect that changes when you switch from normal display to reverse display
These aspects are independent of each other so the colour of the columns has nothing to do with the two queues of money
The colour only affects what happens when you place a bet - as shakespeare said, when you click on the pink column it will place a lay bet - click on the blue column and it will place a back bet
To understand the queues of money we know there is a backer's queue and a layer's queue and we know that the backer's queue must be at higher odds than the layer's queue.
The ladder ALWAYS displays the higher backer's queue in the right hand column and the lower layer's queue in the left hand column (this is true regardless of the display - normal or reverse).
In your example, we can see the higher backer's queue to the right of the odds of 1.05, 1.06 & 1.07 with values of 85582, 100159 & 46715.
And the lower layer's queue to the left of the odds 1.04, 1.03, 1.02 with values of 286067, 277553 & 256362.
So the 286,067 that you mention is layer's money (6.82 of which is yours).
The fact that the 286,067 is displayed in a blue box does not change the queue - it is on the left and lower than the other queue so it is the layer's queue.
You also say "there is 46,715 in the pink lay column" but, again, the pink colour does not make the 46,715 lay money - it is on the right hand side and higher than the other queue so it is the backer's queue.
You asked...
"There is 286,067 in the blue back column at 1.04. Just so I'm not missing anything, this is 286 thousand that has been placed on Portugal to win at 1.04, and is waiting to be matched, yes ?"
No. The 286,067 is layer's money (6.82 of which is yours). It is not backer's money and has not been placed on Portugal to win. It has been layed at 1.04 against Portugal and is waiting to be matched. Don't let the blue colour make you think it is backer's money. The position of the queue (ie to the left and lower than the other queue) tells you it is layer's money.

Thanks both. Reading through both of your explanations, the light bulb went on. I've been reading the ladder backwards. I'm so glad Bet Angel has practice mode, and also that you can play for real for basically pennies, not to mention the help of forum people like yourselves. I could have been caught out quite badly with my previous understanding of how this works.
