Practice mode - Back bet accepted with no liquidity
I am using practice mode, if I select a market early few prices available, I find that if there is say 10 only available on the lay side and I place a back of 50 at the current market price the bet is accepted can someone explain why this is as I find it confusing I am sure in live mode the bet would sit there until 50 became available on the lay side.Could this be sportsbook (in simulated practise mode) taking the bet, thanks

There's more to it than that. I use practice mode all the time because I'm new and learning. I know you can get much bigger bets matched in practice mode than you ever could in live mode. But I've also had plenty of fill-or-kill bets in practice mode that have got only partially filled. So I don't understand that.
Dallas, any ideas how it really works?

I have no idea about your specific query, but I will say this - you need to get out of the practice mode and into the real markets ASAP.shakespeare wrote:I use practice mode all the time
I've never heard of anybody swimming the channel, whilst wearing armbands!
Practice mode doesn't replicate the increased heart rate, the sweaty palms, or the explosion of bad language when a trade goes the other way. You will learn more properly trading, as opposed to pretending
What you see in practice mode is the real market except for the bets you place are not submitted to Betfair so cant and dont have any bearing on the actual market or movement.
If your in practice mode and you see someone is offering to lay £10 @ 3.0 if you put any amount greater than this it will show as fully matched - this is because there is no other way to display it, ie, you back for £200 the £10 of real lay money will still be there and now £190 of your practice back money will be shown to you at the same odds so it will become completely confusing.
It can show part matched bets in certain situations, for example in practice mode if you place a back bet of £200 @ 5.0 then someone places a real £50 back bet at the same odds it will show as £250 for you but £50 in the real market.
If someone takes that with a lay bet with a stake up to £50 it will reduce your stake by that amount (part-filled). But if they place anymore than that ie, £52 that will now leave £2 of real lay money @ 5.0 so will have to show your whole £200 as completely matched.
Thats why using any oversize stakes is going to produce completely different results in the real market from those you where getting in practice mode.
To add to what Letiss has said about the psychological difference my advice would also include when using practice mode always use stakes relevant to the market. In greyhounds i would use £2-£10 stakes when in practice mode and for pre-race UK horse races £50-£200 stakes ifs its a short priced fav and less on the higher priced runners etc.

LeTiss, I completely agree about practice mode being no substitute. I know it's a lot easier to pull the trigger when it's just pretend money you're using. I will move to live mode soon...
Thank you for the explanation, Dallas. I knew it was not simple to do bet matching in practice mode. I tend to use £100 stakes in practice mode, so I hope my experience is not too unrealistic.
