Being a cyclist myself i was horrified to see the crash in the womens road race.
Thankfully, despite what was a rather sickening crash, the Dutch Cycling Federation have now released a statement on the well-being of Anna van Vleuten, stating on their official Twitter account that: "Van Vleuten turns out [to be] okay. [Van Vleuten] is conscious and has been transported to hospital for further examination
All the best Anna

I thought the course was excellent - it was the safety measures that were put in place (or not) that was madness. The course itself had everything.
It was one of the worse i have seen in a few years and when she still had nt moved even as others where passing her it did nt look good at all.
When you have a rider like Nibali going down the day before it shows just how difficult the course was.

Yup I agree it was a difficult course, but you get riders going down all year round on tricky descents. As Chris Boardman was saying last night he thought it was one of the best ever Olympic courses there has been.
The fact they designed specific Olympic bike bottles but not bottle holders is a bit daft - made the cobble section more like dodge the botttle

The accident itself was indeed horrific and the way her front wheel locked up and somersaulted her over the handlebars only to land on her neck as awful. I actually offered up a prayer for her as I genuinely thought she may have broken her neck.andyfuller wrote: As Chris Boardman was saying last night he thought it was one of the best ever Olympic courses there has been.
Actually he seemed to be rather angry that they'd passed the course with it's 1-foot drop offs, when I listened to him.
As a side note, I felt bad for the American lady who came SOOO close to a gold medal, only to see that trio glide past her just metres from the line...
