Consider buying a UPS for you PC and router - it won't protect you against internet failure but it will against power cuts and they don't cost much, probably less than you lost today.

I think that's a useful idea. fyi - there are many forms of vps service out there and it would be worth researching the pricing on both the inhouse offering and other independent providers.

As for the greening rule, it's a real simple one. You literally setup a small automation rule to run against all races and set it to green up automatically once you are inside the final official 10 seconds pre-race. the other good thing about a rule like this is that it takes away the emotional temptation to go in play with a trade as it literally just looks at your position *as is* and either greens out or reds out as required. I've attached a small rule that would work for this purpose. you would then link it directly to the guardian list for all races. Be aware, this rule is intended to remove your need to green out before the race starts. It will therefore just do its thing on every race that you attach it to when the appointed moment arrives. Keep that in mind!!

Very kind. thank you. can i close this rule if in middle of a trade? Last thing I want is it to cut a trade out that I want to keep open for many reasons.

sure, to remove the rule at any time, you just either deselect it from the guardian dropdown list or just highlight the event and then click the *Remove rule from selected markets* button in the *Rules File Usage* tab of the Automation ribbon. However, the rule is designed explicitly to ONLY fire when you are 10 seconds from the official event start time. Of course, some peeps do tinker around the edges of this notional time and therefore it would make sense to get slick at removing the rule if required.

I am thinking a UPS is the way to go then for me. If anyone has any suggestion of a make/model they are already using, would be great.

this UPS may be the type of thing to start your search criteria from (we use this in our holiday place due to frequent cuts):

http://www.ebuyer.com/196268-apc-back-u ... -be700g-uk

basically, you want something that will give you a good 20-30 mins with moderate consumption (tho, *get out of jail* requirements may only be 5-10 mins), post power cut. you'd plug in the router, computer and monitor (any any other dependent peripherals) and literally set and forget.

[edit] - altho the unit shows 8 sockets, only 4 are UPS connections, the other 4 are surge protection outputs. so actually quite a nice combo. we use it mainly to power table lamps and/or ensure phones are charged, but will suit your purpose handsomely

I used to use a UPS a long time ago, but a laptop and 4G connection is my default back up now.

Of all the meets of the year the Ebor is my least favourite from a trading perspective, though I have several family members who have gone to it every year and they all love it and says its a fantastic atmosphere.

Since the derby. I dont really pay attention to the racing anymore. Opportuitys missed when I am too hecked up about the coverage and likely winner of the race. I will still enjoy the race though.
