It's amazing what can be done with machine learning these days. I compare it a bit to what many of us did on a commodore 64 some 30-35 years ago. We got this machine that offered limitless experimentation and without being able to give any proof: I think the passion that was sparked back then has laid the foundation for a lot of technology we use every day now. I see the same thing happening with machine learning.

I'm still dreaming of using reinforcement learning on betfair ;)

i don't think you'll be surprised to learn that there will be a small number of high end bots running that have used a combo of AI and machine learning in order to recognise the minutiae of markets turning both pre-race and more importantly, ahead of events IR. i'd imagine at this stage of the game, it's more pattern recognition tho, rather than self determining/self adjusting algo's that walk the walk...

now, where's that sinclair spectrum...
