It has happened quite a few time Peter in the last 6 months - it isn't a cock up. I don't know what it is but it surely can't be a cock up as it has happened so much. It happened in a few races yesterday for example. Today it is more persistent but I won't complain

I seen some strange definitive patterns on some of the graphs a couple of races ago, is this what you are referring to?

If you were watching the markets it was near impossible to not spot this really.

They whack in a lay and remove it, whack it in remove it. They do it a few ticks out the money to begin with and move it around with the market eventually getting it all matched. They do it on almost all runners at the same time.

It has to be automated for the speed at which they are doing it but I do not think it is a cock up as it has happened quite a bit and if it were a cock up I would think after the first time they would have fixed it :?:

I can't see how it can make any money but who is to say they are trying to make money like with all these things such as the spiker a bit ago :?:

Looks like they are done for the day anyway but I am sure they will be back at some point in the future. When, who knows :!:

I assume this is what Peter was referring to :?:

Yep, I know what you are on about, it's like flashing money on the lay side (usually at least a few hundred quid). Eventually gets eaten up, but only after a while as it's not there long enough normally to be eaten up all in one go (split second).

in ... out ... in ... out ... splash your cash about!
you do the flashing lay bet and turn around
and realised your bank has gone and smashed through the ground!

oooh do the flashing lay bet
oooh do the flashing lay bet

... erm, sorry, got carried away, I'll get me coat :)

I've seen him around a lot, just not predictable when he arrives. I was reffering to a couple of races where some lay bets went through at wild odds. I'll have a look at the data later but it looked a complete cock up to me.

I thought he was relatively predictable once he shows up tbh. I agree it was a cock up from a profitable strategy view point but I suspect that being profitable as we look at it is not the reason behind their motive as whenever they do it I am unable to see how it can be profitable similar to the spikes etc.

TBH I suspect that it is all the same person, whoever it is clearly has a lot of money and doesn't seemed to fussed about losing it. I suspect that what has happened in the later part of the afternoon on some races and on some of the evening races is the same person as we saw this afternoon.

I feel like they just do it for a bit of fun as they clearly are not really price sensitive. I just struggle to get my head around how these people lose in a day an amount that some people take 5 years or more to earn.

Are you sure its not just Betfair In-house bots shuffling money around for some reason?

I suspect this, i layed a price on a odds on favourite at 1.77, planning to jump on the lift when it happened, the graph was on the floor (below 50%) the price just dropped to 1.62, alot of money came in, my stop loss just blew out of the water
In play can sometimes be the best option as this got me out of trouble with what ever it was

I saw this on saturday,

Definately a cock up. :D It/he/she layed the front six (maybe more) in the market for BIG money leaving the book at under 95% for long periods.

If your trading just one horse it can look messy on the p&l.

Just noticed it again on Newmarket 15:20, Layed about 10k, when it got down to about 7k it started flashing, then the last few seconds pushed it out from 8.6 to 10.5, I was on the right side of it as well which was nice.
