Hi,
Could anyone recommend a book that shows how to analyse horse racing form and maybe also a book that explains horse racing terminology? Thanks

With the word terminology is a good point.

If the racing industry really wanted to grow, (so a newbie like you could understand and pick it up quickly like football etc) they should modernism the industry I form the opinion that they should stop using incredibly old fashioned terminology for horse racing.

For example- Calling a horse "useful" (talented), I find actually quite offensive- We as human beings should know better that all us living beings have as much right to be here as a racehorse does.

Although understanding racing equipment or horse anatomy and "terminology" is never going to change. I mean a horse is always going to referred to as "travelling on the bridle"
Reason being; horse equipment (tack)- A bridle is a piece of tack used to control a horse. It usually fits over the ears down the cheek bones and around the muzzle.(Hundreds of different types and variety and add ons) There is also a "bit" (usually a metal bar that goes to the back of the mouth, kinda like a gag) used in the horses mouth, connecting two pieces of the bridle.
So when a horse is described as travelling on the bridle- What it really means is the jockey is still using the "bit" to hold onto the horse. Which implies he still has the need to restrain, pull or hold onto the horse. No need for encouragement. (Travelling on the bridle)

Just learning about horse tack and anatomy will give you excellent knowledge and much faster understatement of the sport as there will be alot of terminology that you wont really find on the internet easily.

This link could help you too.

Must mention this.

With this in mind. You could lean to trade horse racing without needing to be able to read a race card, know the difference between a horse or mare. Or have any clue what the commentator or "expert" pundit is saying.

You could still profit without the need to know any of it. I do think an interest in the sport is a must to maintain longevity and success so is a good idea to learn some good basics.

A horse that travels on the bridle alot would suggest that it is a strong traveller and will most likely reach low odds in running on most races even if they dont win. So another reason to learn.

For instance- A Galileo bred horse trained under say John Gosden. What do I know from this. Even if its form reads 009. I can probably tell you that this horse will most likely trade low in running in its early days of it racing career simply on the two facts. Good Trainer and breeding suggest this horse has the physique of a powerfull animal and in most cases always travel well.

I have done my deed for the day and hope it helps
