Would have been nuts!

I had the pleasure of getting to ride one of the 'Magnificent Seven' when I did my jockey course at the British Racing School in Newmarket.

What an amazing feet it was for Frankie and tbh just amazing that he is still at the top of his game. It will be a big loss to racing when he retires!

That's cool.

He will be a loss, so many people are aware of him. I doubt many of the public can name many other jockeys. The sport really needs a few characters to liven it up.

I guess the only other well known Jockey was Tony McCoy - the sport needs to do a lot more on 'characters'.

I remember it well.

BUT it wasn't "twenty years ago today" !
I was at the Royal Troon Hotel after racing at Ayr and having a cheeky sun-downer or three outside on their little terrace.
Ascot was the weekend after.
That would have been the 28th of September. Even I couldn't be at two places at once.

Frankie ended up buying Fujiyama Crest (number 7) and keeping him as a "family pet". I remember seeing him in a paddock there years later. That horse changed a few peoples lives.
Unfortunately he passed away a year or so ago I think. Time and tide and all that....

William Pike had a fair crack at a Frankie tribute yesterday.
Alas, the Wizard could 'only' manage 6 of the 8 race card at Kalgoorlie.

Franki Dettori reflects on the day he rode all seven winners on the card at Ascot in September 1996. Guests include racing reporter Derek Thompson and bookmaker Gary Wiltshire.

Wiltshire did nearly £1m that day
