Does anyone have any idea what would cause the clock on my PC to run slow?

I got caught out today thinking I had a couple of mins to the off when the race started.

Turns out the clock in the taskbar of vista is running slow. I corrected it thinking thats the end of it but an hour later is was out by a minute again.

I have just had to change the motherboard so maybe its related to that.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful

Hi,

Not sure but you could replace the battery on the motherboard, though that should not be a problem once the PC is running. Try it and reset the time.

Hi LilGB

Thanks for your reply, do you know whether thats going to effect the BIOS setup, I've read on another forum that it might.

It may reset the bios to default settings but if you havent altered the settings since fitting the MB that wont matter. If you have altered the settings then go back to the bios and reset, unless you are an overclocker (and given the risk of crashing I wouldnt advise this for a trader) the only thing you might do is change the boot priority. I wonder if the internal clock is faulty on the new board? I am not certain but I have a feeling you can align the clock with an internet clock that will keep it correct, have a search round and look in windows help, my vista expertise is limited.

The internal clock on your PC is just a quartz timepiece. Some of them are not very accurate. I've had this before on some motherboards.

Hi,

A software solution may be to download this:

http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/

Not tried it myself, but it looks like you can get it to sychronise as often as you want (say every 15 mins) with an atomic clock on the internet.

You never know, it may help :).

Was just checking my clock, iff you double click on the clock on the taskbar then go to the tab internet time you can set teh clock to syncronise with an internet clock.
