Just read this article that Racing UK are going to be broadcasting in HD next year and may even have their own HD channel.

Better still they say:

"This represents a significant £7m investment in the coverage of our racing. The network upgrade will deliver high definition pictures at a faster speed than the current standard definition network," said Racing UK's director broadcast David Bellin."

They have had HD racing channels in America for years so good to see us catching up - god knows when the ugly cousin (ATR) will catch up :!:

Do you really want another second or so added to the pictures though???, If I'm not really watching whats on TV mainly listening (like when I'm trading the horses) then I'd prefer to have standard pics and be as close to live as i can, of course if I'm actually watching it and not trading then I will take HD pics all the time.

I understood from the above statement that they would be faster than their current pictures?

Have to agree with the ATR comment though the pic quality, the pic quality is terrible and the brightness and colour is really high a lot of the time when compared against all my other channels.

Well that goes to show how far behind their normal pics are currently as HD pics will always be behind standard def pics as their is more data to send so obviously they could send standard pics even faster.

The RUK pics aren't really that far behind terrestrial tbh. Much better than ATR.

Sorry Andy I was talking about being at the actual event itself. The point I was trying to make overall is that HD pics are always at least a second behind standard pics and while trading the horses and only really listening out for things happening I'd prefer to be 1sec ahead via the standard pic they could offer than the HD pic.
Are you still Analogue with your terrestrial pics by the way? as I'm in the Westcountry we were one of the first if not the first area to be changed over to Digital terrestrial pics and channel 4 went from being 2secs ish ahead of RUK to around 1sec as again it takes longer for the pics to arrive.

Ah with you now. Yeah I am still analogue think it is either 2011 or 2012 for my area. The later the better as digital reception is crap where we live :(
