Back to lay can be a profitable stratergy if you select the correct runners, backing and laying every fav or 2nd fav wont work long term.
Try being more selective and look to identify front runners which are more likely to shorten

When you say it didn't work.....how many markets did you run it on? Even a solid strategy might have a natural varience that requires 100s or 1000s of trades, over many weeks or months to smooth out. Also consider being selective about the markets to which you apply your strategy because rarely one size fits all.

The life cycle for a strategy is generally .. have an idea, model it in historical data, trial it for low stakes, analyse the results, revise the strategy.

Hi uzain,
if you had some profitable strategies that were making you decent money would you give them away for nothing to someone who comes on a forum and asks for them?

I don't know the exact figure (probably only Betfair know and their going to keep in to themselves) but its generally assumed that 95% of BF traders loose money over the long term. Its exactly the same with financial trading.

If you and your mates are serious about all this, then you have an awful lot of work ahead of you, trading on BF is not a get rich quick scheme.

Start by watching lots of PWs videos, read lots of posts on the forums here, ask specific questions not vague ones like the one you started the thread with. If you can afford it look at taking one or two sports trading courses, but make sure you select the courses where the teachers actually trade. Don't take the courses where all their money comes from teaching people how to trade.

PW and his guys trade as well as teach, but there are other people too who do the same thing.

Good luck and I apologies if I have come over a little bit nasty but lots of people come on forums like this thinking they can get a couple of answers off people and then start raking in the money. If only it was that easy.

Thank you everyone. Just one more question is there any benefit having one or more betfair accounts apart from reducing the premium charge?

yes, it means you can isolate different strategies without worrying about them looking at each others balances and thus being in conflict over trades on the same market etc. as for premium charge, if and when you get there, then potentially you'll have a lot more market knowledge to deal with each account as required. as an aside, do not try to disguise the two accounts, be open and register one in your name and one in your spouse (or others) name.

You need a seperate BA subscription for each different betfair username you wish to use but can open as many instances of BA for using each one

Hi Dallas,

How do you keep your strategies seperate if you have BA running on different instances, have you a specific spreadsheet which you download them on to?I dont understand how people keep and record strategies as when I download betfair p&l after a days trading its hard to know what I was doing, be it back to lay or just pre race trading? Any help appreciated, thanks

Personnally when in PM i dont use the 'Export' option instead instruct guardian to retain all the info as detailed in option 1 of this thread.

If i want to record any of this ill then just enter manually to a spreadsheet myself, i did upload a simple one to the forum if you want to use it or use it as an idea for your own
