Has anyone had a negative account balance before? At the end of Friday I had £200 in my account. When I logged in today (without using it Saturday) my balance was -£231. I contacted online help who said a 'charge' had been applied but couldn't say what it was. The support email address they gave me was no longer in use and redirected me to the developers portal to open a ticket.
Does anyone have an idea what this charge could be? It can't be premium as I am nowhere near that level yet.
Thanks in advance
Negative Account Balance
The only charge it can likely be is a transaction charge, is it possible you made more 1000 within an hour if so they will charge you

Although for £400+ you would have to of been ploughing tons of bets through over a long period of time

Is this actual bets placed? Would 'bets' in practice mode count?Dallas wrote:The only charge it can likely be is a transaction charge, is it possible you made more 1000 within an hour if so they will charge you

Yes everybet placed is counted as a transaction even if they are not matched.
If it is transaction charges the same thing happened to this user a few months ago and he managed to get them refunded.

When you contacted Betfair did you contact them via their main helpdesk?
If so your best off speaking to their API team there much more likley to be able to help, this used to be by emailing [email protected] but this is now closed and you now need to contact them via

Thanks Dallas, looks like I'll have to wait until the weekend is over to get it sorted then. Having checked my account on the full website it has listed a £435 transaction charge. I'll have to argue my caseDallas wrote:Yes everybet placed is counted as a transaction even if they are not matched.

Usually they will waive the first transaction charges if you explain you didn't know.
unmatched bets in practice mode? Surely not. Surely those are local and doesn't hit their server. Correct me if im wrong.Dallas wrote:Yes everybet placed is counted as a transaction even if they are not matched.

Does transactional charges have a wider scope, i.e. high API traffic?
Only transactions place/replace count, practise mode does not place any transactions.Dallas wrote:Yes everybet placed is counted as a transaction even if they are not matched.

If that's the case I don't know what it is. According to my account there are 12 pages of bets for that day, at 20 bets per page that's 320 for the whole day. They were under £2 so would have been amended so that's 640 for the day. From what I can see they are charged at 1p per transaction over 1000. So to incur £435 of charges I made over 43,00 odd bets over the 1000 per hour?LinusP wrote:Only transactions place/replace count, practise mode does not place any transactions.Dallas wrote:Yes everybet placed is counted as a transaction even if they are not matched.

Indeed, I had the same problem when I first started using BA. see my thread below:LinusP wrote:You're looking at those that weren't matched / cancelled as well as they count. An order under £2 also counts as two transactions.

My answer above was in relation to the question by the poster 'Is this actual bets placed' and i was refering only to live bets confirming placed bets means bets matched and unmatched - sorry if it confused anyone with practice mode.Dallas wrote:Yes everybet placed is counted as a transaction even if they are not matched.
The Min Betfair is £2 and the only way the software get round is to still place the min £2 bet but outside the current odds then take the excess away and move the remainder to the odds requiredworkpeter wrote:Why/how so many bets under £2? I thought Betfair didnt like this. Just curious.
So a bet of £1.15 at 5.2 will mean a £2 bet at 1000.0 then 85p cancelled and the remianing £1.55 moved to 5.2
Thats why you see 2 transactions the 1st is to place the bet the 2nd is the bet being moved to the odds requested and also why if betting in place the delay is twice as long as there is a delay on placing the bet and the same delay when moving the remainder
