How long did it take you to start trading profitably?

Question for the "proper" traders out there. This isn't intended to be a guide for me or anyone else, more a question out of curiosity but...

As per the title. How long would you say it took you to become profitable in trading and how often were you trading/which markets?

Prior to this, were you breaking even or making a loss?

Also, was there any specific "aha!" moment or piece of advice where everything just clicked or did you just trade consistently and work to improve all around?

I myself am "technically" profitable. I'm very very new to this but I started with a bank of 500 and I have double it in the past couple of months using baby stakes. I had a fluke where I ended up with a big green (around 500 quid if memory serves) but I don't count that in my figures. I withdrew it and invested in a better set up instead.

Like I said. I'm not using this as any particular time frame for success as that simply doesn't exist but I was just curious as to how peoples trading started out.

Cheers!

You won't believe this, but only a week or two, many years ago, but not in a way many on here trade.

I would select 3 or so likely movers in the morning. Put £100 on each with a corresponding lay bet of £110 to make £10 profit. Worked surprisingly well.

I put a post up a few months ago 'How on earth did I ever get into this'. You may find it interesting.

Inspiring stuff! I recently started dabbling with this but not had enough results to make my mind up yet. I look in the morning for horses that have more money matched than expected for the current price. I then check out the form etc to see if I can back up that it might be an insider going for a good value bet or not.

I'll check out your other post. Thanks for the input.
