Speaking of Stewards Enquiries... this was my favourite one for the day:

Race 4 - 1:35pm
THE BETFRED BECHER HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 1) (Grade 3)
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Conor O’Farrell, the rider of PORTRAIT KING (IRE), placed sixth, had weighed in at 10st 2½ lb having weighed out at 10st. They interviewed the rider, Patrick Griffin, the trainer, and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)67.4.3 in that he had weighed in heavy having had a drink of water after weighing out. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Sunday 18 December 2016.

I spent today's racing at Fairyhouse, possibly one of the only places in Europe that is permanently colder than Antarctica!

Didn't manage to get my Pick 6 or Placepot on, the queue for the ATM meant they were off for the first just as I was about to fill in the slips.

Just as well as it turned out. Went out to watch the end of the first and the winner Landofhopeandglory was very impressive, when the chips were down he ate up the ground and battled his heart out. Runner up was very impressive too for a first UK/Ire start.

2nd race I decided to try my luck as a paddock judge. Airlie Beach had the head down, chilled out, laid back. He was my big bet. Labaik was my smaller bet, because he's grey and I love grey horses. Winner and refused to race. :D

3rd race I thought Vroom Vroom Mag just had to show up, have a little bit of a challenge, then win easily. Official result was a photo-finish but it was clear to pretty much everyone that Apples Jade had it. There was quite a hush over the crowd and then a growing consensus/anger that Ruby had left it too late to make the move on her, the jockey lost the race, not the horse!

4th race I was rushed getting my bets on, big queue for the toilets! I still had 3 runners in the jackpot so I wasn't overly concerned. Backed 2 who are possibly still running. One of my jackpot bets Campeador was cruising into the lead, hit the last, and hit the deck like a lead balloon. Rolled over and got kicked by another horse he was bringing down. The cracking noise was absolutely horrific as he fell. I can only liken it to the crack when you hear a large branch snaps/or a person breaks their upper arm or upper leg. I thought it was one of the horses bones snapping, but after a few seconds on the ground, the stewarts and Geraghty had him back up on his legs and he trotted away gingerly. Jackpot bet gone but all fallers alive and walking.

5th race I was still a bit shook after watching the previous fall, decided to be a paddock judge again. Head down, chilled out, looked like he was almost hypnotised to be cool, Coney Island was the only one for me. When he cleared the last in the lead there was only 1 person shouting at the jockey GO ON MARK!! Yeah this guy :D

6th race I had a shortlist of 3. After a paddock look, one of them looked very uppity, bouncing around, looking all around, bag of nerves basically, so he was gone from the shortlist. Robbie Mac's horse Kilgefin Star was the one taken off the list. Went to the lead but didn't have the ability or burnt up too much juice in the paddock to have a chance. Other 2 on the shortlist pulled up and 6th.

Last race I was fully aware Getabird was a 200K buy after winning 1 point to point. So I went for a few bigger prices each way and a combo forecast. Had 2nd and the forecast so not too bad. Winner was very impressive.

2 horses I'll definitely be keeping an eye on are the first and last winners Landofhopeandglory and Getabird.

Other things of note: Jessica Harrington is incredibly tall!! I walked past her and stood nearby to hear the voice just to make sure it was her (she was on the phone) I'm about 5'11 in my shoes and she was a good 1-2' taller than me.

Walked past Rich Richie just after the Vroom Vroom Mag race, he was wearing his usual horrific suit and tie and smiling. One of those smiles where you know you're on camera and have to smile, but inside you feel like you've just smelt the worst fart ever and want to vomit

So that was my today's racing, I've finally got feeling back in my fingers and toes :)

Don't think I was on Talking Horses, this is the only forum I've used this username on that I can remember.

Ironically if I was to start following horses with my present views, I wouldn't have followed Moscow Flyer because of the sheepskin noseband!

I'm of a present belief that if a horse is good and genuine, there should be no need for blinkers/eyepieces/cheekpieces/tongue tie/hood etc.
It may and does improve some horses, but a lot of the time it seems similar to putting a big spoiler, tinted windows, 12 inch subwoofers and fat exhaust on a 1992 Ford Fiesta......looks better aaaand f##k all else!

Unless it's a grey horse wearing a hood, preferably green or black. They just look like superhero horses to me, I always expect them to sprout 14 foot wings and fly to the finish line like a pegasus. Yet to see it happen on any I've backed, they're normally out of contention with 25% of the race to run, both flat and NH. Never say never though!

If I ever land the Euromillions, you'll know my runners by their great commentary names; "In the lead is An Albino Zebra, closely followed by Amonkeywithagun, on the inside is Lotsmoremonkeyswithguns, Sprightly Hippo making headway as they turn into the straight"

There is defenitely someone out there trying to put the pain on traders. When market moves alittle there is definetly someone who is sticking a large order the other way.
